So I’ll be honest, I’m young and not very expirenced with vehicles. I currently drive a 2007 Tacoma prerunner 2 wheel drive v6.

So the other day I was driving down the highway and some a**hole decided he had to turn last minute going 60 without getting on the shoulder. So I had to slam on my brakes, skidded and everything. Afterwords when I started to speed back up my truck did a really hard shift. I then noticed that the rpms were at 3500 when only going 60mph. So to see what would happen I sped up to 70 and the rpms jumped up to 4000 and wouldn’t shift up. When I drove at lower speeds (30-40mph) it was shifting up and down just fine unless I was going 60 or higher. I got to my destination shortly after and parked it. The following morning I left and about 3 minutes later the check engine light came on but it was driving normal unlike the day before.

So just to be safe I took it to the dealership to get it looked at. They got back to me in a couple of hours saying the pressure solenoids B and D were stuck open and then proceeded to tell me I need a new transmission. They then quoted me for a rebuilt trans at $5302. The price seemed ridiculous and I called a friend who is a mechanic, he doesn’t do transmissions anymore, and he agreed that the price was outrageous.

Does anyone know if it could be something else? Or if it is the solenoids, What would be considered a reasonable price?

Any chance you accidentally shifted to a lower gear during the hard stop?
