Finally got the clazzio installed.

 

I like it but don't want the red stitching. Wish you could pick a different colour

With that setup, it looks like you can't ever really open your mx4.

 

The first portion opens up. The rack is held on by 4 bolts on each side. If I need to open up my mx4 which I hardly ever do cause I use big long Plano cases so I can just pull them out from the tail gate; I just unscrew the bolts. Under the bed caps are brackets with nut plates welded on em.

As for weather proofing, the inside around bracket has a gasket and on top of that, the bolts are Teflon taped With a rubber wash.

 

Could you post a Pic of the bracket with nut plate? I didn't really consider just bolting it to the bed like you did. It would be useful since I can't really find a bed rack that will utilize the tracks since they moved with the mx4 install.

You can find some that will have drop brackets so you can use the tracks, the issue is the mx4 has a lip on the edges so the plate can’t sneak under the cover (helps with water proofing though).

I don’t have a picture of the inside/brackets and it’ll be hard taking a picture of it since I sealed the bed side cap, but what you can do is remove the side bed caps(held on by clips), drill holes into the sheet metal, and weld or use clip-on nut plates. Just make sure the base of the rack runs down and sits flush with the top of the bed side so the weight is distributed across the bed side not just on the nut plate. That was my original plan, but figured since I overdid it using DOM, might as well overdo it and place brackets into the bed so I won’t have to get bed reinforcements later.

I had a local off-roading shop do it though since they build rock crawlers from ground up and are 10x better than me at fabricating and welding. They had experience on how to reinforce stuff for off-roading and I had experience of overlanding and the design/storage usage so it worked out perfectly.

 

I agree. I took a sharpie to mine and turned them black. (or at least as black as I could make them with a fine tip thin sharpie) Used some of @rrentrop 's decals to cover up the red.. turned mine blue! Looks much better to me.. was bothering me before I installed it, when I did.

 

You could have dropped the plastic in boiling water with black Rit dye. Might have changed the color permanently. red doesn't just sell the bezels??

 

I thought about doing the dye and I still might so they match the new black bodies? Not sure who it was when I contacted them but was told they do not sell just parts for them. just glad I don't have to see the paint flying off every time I wash it....

285's came in today. Looking forward to getting these mounted! Fingers crossed i don't have to do too much cutting and trimming.

I don’t know. I think that’s what your dinner looks like when you have young children. It’s very similar to what your dinner looks like when you’re a first year teacher, but instead of dinosaur chicken nuggets on a plastic princess plate its buffalo chicken chunks on a paper plate.

 

I need your parents to call my parents and explain this deal. I’ve been rocking a 4.0 for three years straight and I can’t get so much as an air freshener. Granted I’m also quite a bit older and working on my masters, but still, I”lol take truck parts anyway I can get them.

 

What nanny state is this so I can make a note to never move there.

 

I love the rod vault. I’d love to get one for my truck one day. Granted I need one for an open face rod and reel, not a fly rod.
