I take mine on any trip. A weekend in Tahoe or a tip to Europe. It can come in handy. My parents were in Hawaii during the false alert for the incoming missile and none of the phones worked. They couldn't get a text through to me or my brothers. If they had this they could have messaged us and we could have let them know it was a false alert. My point being this isn't just for offroading or backpacking.

^Agree, many uses. I have an older inReach SE; having past tracking data available online also comes in handy.

I know some features you have to pay and subscription.. what is the best plan you recommended? Also is there a option pay per use?

I pay for 40 messages a month. Its about $20 a month. If I go over 40 messages its only 50 cents a message. I have only gone over a few times.

I'm going to go with the recreation plan. Mostly for the unlimited tracking points and pings. Haven't decided on annual plan or freedom plan yet, but probably will just do annual for the simplicity of it always being ready to go.

I'll use the included carabiner attachment for backpacking, but what are people using for mounting in their trucks?

Not sure but I’m thinking this...

    https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/566397

With this (which i already have X2)

    http://www.hondogarage.com/index.php/product/landing/un-holey-dash-mount-tacoma-2016

Would be the ticket (in a Gen3). Obviously other year tacos would require Ram mounts in different locations

@wileydavis is the freaking man. His stuff is sooooooooooo good, I’m a fan-boy. Those Un-Holey mounts literally make me smile every time I sit in my truck.
