Someone else mentioned the top plate spacer on top idea in the mid travel thread. I no enginerd, but I don't see that making a huge difference. :notsure: Maybe I should just do it right and tie the coil buckets togeather...

Anyways, will weld it up this weekend regardless. Getting into wheeling here soon, so I need at least a temporary fix.

    I know a fix!

Cut out the stock towers and put in a new tower for a 10'' shock..add long travel. Go faster..break more shit.

    Repeat.

Not going to go long travel. Happy with where the truck's at, pretty much at the end of this build. Little mods here and there, and some fixes along the way, but there's nothing major I could see doing to it in the foreseeable future.

Even with where it's at now, I think I'll be chasing down stupid shit like this continuously. Don't need to be breaking any more than I already am. Need to double check on how the front crossmember I welded up last year is doing.

Is it possible that there is something about the ADS top hat that is contributing to this?

    Doubt it. They're pretty solid.

It did occur to me, however, that when I added the spindle gussets two years ago, there was this issue:

I did some clearancing, but it was mostly to the spindle gusset, but there was a little bit to the outside edge of the coil bucket.

    Yes. TC.

It was just the very front corner of the inside piece causing that problem, and only on the one side. Might have to do with how we welded it on, or something else being bent, who knows.

Shit happens when you jump it. Just saying. Don't over think how it happen add some steel, beef it up and call it a day. Once you add a crossover tube you won't have to worry about it.

I've got some dirt designs crossover top hats sitting in Wyoming. Was going to use them on frank but I don't think it'll work with the blower.

Yep. Definitely the cost of having fun.

I'll take em if you're not going to use them.

Anyways, can't really figure out what's going on here.

    [IMG]IMAG0512 by brettbjorgum, on Flickr

Hardly any room to weld around where the bolt and washer need to go, but I did put a little weld in the front and back. Will be keeping an eye on it.

Wow, that's bad. What a strange place to crack too, you'd think the coilover tophat would be supporting it there. How do the coilover tophats look?

Doesn't make sense to me either.

    [IMG]IMAG0511 by brettbjorgum, on Flickr

    Fine.

Yeah, so you going to sell me those top hats?

We'll see how my half-ass fixing holds up.

Also super annoying working in there. Couldn't hardly get in there with the welding helmet.

Is there any chance you are bottoming out the coil over and the shock of the sudden pressure is causing that to crack? Bumps set too high?

    It's conceivable, but I don't think that's what's happening.

I've never had a chance to cycle the front coilovers without the coils, but based on what I see on the shock shaft, I'm not bottoming them out. Heading to @TMFF in a couple weeks to get them rebuilt, so I'll see if I can cycle one after we pull the coil.
