This has happened to me several times. No real consistency to why either.

I didn’t think so either. It was almost bogging. I’m gonna reflash again, should I do anything different this time around?

Make sure the truck is ON, not accessory, and the engine is off... you won't get anything if you're in accessory

Alright, truck is flashed! Now idling

I did have to restart my TCU midway, funny thing is it says don't turn off engine. The directions say to turn it off (2nd button push of course).

So, I canceled the upload, turned off the engine from second button push, turned it back on and wrote the TCU successfully.

@OVTune Should I be worried? Seems to be idiling ok...however there was a few rpm changes during it's idiling so far

Can I turn it off when it is done, or do I have to drive it immediately?

My truck fell flat on its face under full throttle acceleration today. Leaving a toll booth, I floored it. I wasn't watching rpms, but toward the redline of second gear it felt like the engine was starved for fuel. It almost felt like the engine cut off for about a full second. The deceleration was great enough that I lunged forward as if I het the brakes. Really wierd!

I had very similar issues, but in reverse sequence. My initial 87 load ran like a champ. The 91 load had jumpy rpms at idle and would hold gears a little longer than expected. Today, I ditched the 91 load and reloaded 87 and the truck runs, idles, and shifts perfect on the 87.
*** had over 1000 miles on each before switching back to 87 ***

I routinely find myself in 5th at 35, but never 6th.

I am back on 87 now and I think I like the daily drive on 87. I'm getting about 3 mpg better compared to 91 and don't feel like am sacrificing any benefits.

I’ve had this exact issue 2-3 times now.
Only does it 1st or 2nd gear, Full throttle, and it almost seems like it revs into red.

Thats probably just the engine. It's a truck engine not a drag race engine. After a certain rpm the power and torque drop significantly. Also, these trucks were not designed for high rpm so the fuel pump probably couldn't keep up

I have to disagree, truck engine or not the engine makes its power up top. We are hitting the fuel cutoff for sure. Question is why? This shouldn’t be happening on an automatic in D.

Toyota designed the engine for efficiency so they didn't think of anyone running to the redline. So they put a fuel pump that would supply the right amount of fuel for an efficient driving style, i.e. not redlining

Also, it's not power that you feel, it's torque. Remember, power is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you

    OK, update.

Just finished the flash for the 87tune AT.
    Let idle about 22mins.

    Went for a 5 mile break-in drive.

All I can say is... thank you @OVTune
Thank you to everyone on this forum who gave useful information.
I was skeptical at first, but 5 miles ranging from about 5mph all the way to 60ish mph i have a serious tacoboner.
My truck feels not only lighter, but more nimble.
The shifting is out of this world.
Tried the ECT with it too...freakin awesome if you have open uphill road.
Can't wait for the upcoming Summer adventures!
