Lacy (Pupper) is 8 and Sammy is 5. When we brought Sammy home he almost immediately adopted Lacy as his Mom. This is a fairly typical sleep scenario.

Has anyone here ever used a harness with their cat to take them on walks? If so which styles/sizes seem to work best? Cats are quite the acrobats so I know they could slip some harnesses. Also, has anyone used their harness with a seatbelt to take them on car rides?

Our new cat is young and happy and seems pretty adventurous. I would like to get him comfortable with taking rides or even just taking walks with us. My wife and I have always had strictly indoor only cats so we have no experience with this.

We plan to find him a harness that fits well and get him accustomed to wearing it around the house first. Then very slowly getting him adjusted to being outdoors on a leash. Any advice or suggestions on this topic would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

If I tried to harness Sammy my gut tells me he’d turn the tables and be walking me... with stitches. I’m no help here.

Find a nice fitting comfortable harness. They are usually padded. I cant say for sure about walking a cat. They usually chose what they want to do no matter what.
At my house, my room mates have 2 cats and I have mine. We all hang out in the backyard and they are all on leashes.
Just make 100% sure he cannot get under or around places you cannot reach. I had my cat crawl under the deck, up and over a couple joists. He was hung up tight and I cut my arm open crawling under and unhooking the harness.
    Damn cats. Lol

I want to take Luna camping with us, unfortunately we should have started her when she was younger. I doubt she would like a harness and she doesn’t like car trips

Yeah cars n cats dont mix....usually. I always wanted to bring Cheech camping but I know he would hate the road.
I would say you could probably get away with harness training at an older age. If it doesnt work out you could probably return the harness.

If I tried this on our last cat we would be in the same stitched up situation but our new guy is as sweet as can be.

Haha yeah they definitely all have their own personality and prerogative. I am not totally concerned with taking him on walks like a dog but just want to be able to take him outside in a safe manner. He was abused and in a rough place before we adopted him and for some reason the cat carrier sends him into a full blown panic. I hate to stress him out that bad if there is another way. So it would be nice if I could get him comfortable with a harness and leash, then I could just seat belt him in for trips to the vet or wherever.

i never tried using a harness on my cats, but you should have the carrier out at all times put a blanket or pad in it and some toys.throw treats in there and let him get them. it may take awhile, but he won't panic when he see's it.

Too quiet in here. This is not my cat but thought it was unique. Saw it at a local feed store. Fluffball with a bobtail .
