I've been following this thread for 3 or 4 years. I can only recall 2 failures of that part. Not saying there is more, but I just don't see it as a common failure.

This is what I did today.

I started on the cab cage mounts. I pretty much following how @Cr250jumper did his. This is what I have done so far. I will still add plate gussets to each side of the tube to make it one whole piece that connects the plates.

Started with marking all the spots where I'm going to have the tube running to. Using a 1 7/8 hole saw I cut all four holes. I ended up cutting 6"X6" squares around where the mounts are going to go to give me room to work with. I was planing on welding back in the cut out plates but after doing the "A" pillar mounts I'm just going to get new steel and make new plates because the mounts didn't line up where I was hoping. Improvising is my specialty. I was only able to get the "A" pillar mounts done today. I'll do the "B" pillar tomorrow.

Driver side "A" pillar cut out.

Passenger side "A" pillar cut out.

Driver side "B" pillar cut out.

Passenger side "B" pillar cut out.

Made a stincle for the top plates. This is the driver side.

Fitted the top plate. This top plate is only going to be tac on until the whole cage is built.

    Top plate with side plate.

Since there is a bend in the frame I had to tac weld the inside, closer to the front of the truck first and use a pry bar to push the plate closer to the frame and tac welded it in place. Once I had the plate tac welded all around I welded the hole plate in.

Side plate welded all the way around.

To figure out how to cut the tube for the gusset. I used foam board and traced where I wanted the outer side of the tube to land.

Then I traced it over onto the tube and cut it with a 6" cutting wheel. When you cut it leave about 1/8" larger because your going to need to buff it with a flap wheel (sandpaper wheel) to make it perfect.

I tac the tube gusset in place first because I wanted to weld from top to bottom so the heat of welding wouldn't pull the tube down if I welded uphill.

    Tube gusset welded in place.

    Driver side.

I cut this piece out too because it was in the way of the "C" pillar upper tube.

Take in out compress the spring and turn the top 90* the spacing of studs works any rotation.

Yeah I was referring to the use of the old bracket location. Thanks for asking though.

So once the pressure's off of it from the spring, the whole top can rotate freely?

It should without a problem. I don' know the proper Oreintation of the pivot. Every shock I have used has never needed to have a pivot point.

Sound like a bad motor. When you pull up on the switch, can you feel the motor trying to push up the glass?

Take the motor off the regulator and apply 12v to one pin and Ground to the other, and reverse the polarity to reverse the rotation. It should turn freely with no issue. If the gear doesn't turn freely you need a new motor.

Which I just so happen to have a spare one if interested.

Dealer quote me over 3,000, the local shop did it and the 1 bearing rear driver side was replaced. Both sides shoes, 1 bearing and axle seals replaced.

Take the motor off the regulator and do that test. If it doesn't work as I described then it's toast.

I just need it to be parallel to the frame like the driver's side - I'll mess around with it, thanks brother!

The peeps in the mountains aren't like that, but I remember living in the Bay and wearing shorts to school when it was in the 50's
Just the peeps in socal when it comes to cool weather. I hate to say it, I have become one of em, 20 years of consistent 70º weather and you get used to it lol. Definitely never expected that. I still like to cruise to the snow though! Like I said before, my friends who live in areas like Tahoe laugh at me, but I am out in shorts bbqn in January...sooo ha Your avatar is awesome btw
