I ordered that one because the website claimed it fit the tacoma, it does not! Tailgate wouldn’t shut with it installed. I have a 2nd gen. Ive installed these on a handful of customers trucks before and they are pretty nice. There is a member on here who makes clamps for our trucks but I’d have to search for it. He has a thread on them

Thanks for the heads up. I saw on the McGard site that it lists the Tacoma for that model.

I’m not too keen on that model. Mainly because issues I had with bike locks that use the same mechanism. It binds when left outside for a period. I could see the same thing happen with that with the snow season here(salt/corrosion). At least with the McGard, you can easily drill it out if it becomes stuck.

Ya I saw that too and was excited, ordered it thru O’Reillys because they had one in town at another store, it fit perfecly around the tailgate but the body of the lock hit the tailgate and bed when trying to shut it. Only closed 1/2 way lol

After seeing how much it costs to replace a tailgate and knowing it will be well over my $1000 deductable, I decided it was worth putting a couple 20-cent washers over each of the tailgate cable eyes to lock them in and $1 for a stainless hose clamp to lock the hinge. Ive accidentally left my tailgate unlocked before and it’s apparently easy to pop the lock too. If it helps slow someone down enough that they leave the tailgate, its worth it!

If you use a hose clamp, turn it backwards and tighten it from below and behind the bumper with a long screwdriver - makes getting it off harder.

Depending on the clamp, you may be able to swap it out for a Torx bit. I’ll probably do that if I go that route.

You can pack the Sabellco with grease. It shouldn’t bind then.

It is expensive, but it’s a cool looking, solid product.

I’ve taken tailgates off before, but it’s kind of a pain by yourself, especially on a full size.

I have no need to take off the Tacoma tailgate on a regular basis and also have a utility trailer for rocks and dirt.

A Pop n Lock would be a good way to go for the price, so no worries about forgetting to lock the tailgate manually.

Well I thought all new Tacomas had locking tailgates and if they don’t it’s a $5 part for Toyota, kind of like the nonlocking gas cap.

When locked, the T/G should be OK....... But how about the day you are helping a brother move apartments..... You are fully loaded and pull up in front of his new digs..... You guys grab the couch and proceed to the elevator and up to the 3rd floor..... you take couch in and walk to the window just in time to see your T/G going down the street in the back of a beat-to-shit Chevy....??

Damn that clamp idea now looks pretty good, eh??

PS...fill & cover the clamp's screw with JB Weld and a screw driver cannot take it off..!

As I retired about 11 months ago, I have plenty of time to keep things clean. The Taco is only 7 months old.
I went from driving about 14,000 miles per year to less than 3,000 in 7 months.

I have rental properties that I’ve maintained for almost 10 years and I’m constantly loading tools, paint, pressure washers, wood chipper, ladders, wood, shrubs, trees, bags of mulch, insect granules, weed killer etc.

    A canopy would be good.

I’m an amateur home remodeler so I’m usually doing a lot of tile work, floor, cabinets, minor electrical and plumbing along with outdoor irrigation landscaping etc. for friends and past coworkers.

I sold my off road motorcycle several years ago as I don’t heal as quickly as in the past.

I also sold my 18 ft Sea Doo boat years ago as I was just too busy then to use it much and now don’t have space for it in this newer house.

The 3 car garage with loft work shop is always in need of a straightening up.

There’s more equipment in the outdoor shed.

Refurbing a classic 15 y/o solid stainless steel Traeger BBQ for those familiar with them.

Never enough room. Just purchased Costco 4x8 hanging shelves for 13 ft ceiling height to get it all in order.7D169CC7-0ADC-4C43-8937-8C9469A257B2.jpg 746FC80A-9C90-492C-B4FB-E0FD07307303.jpg 29DB39C0-27D4-4DF0-93DE-CA2D9F4BD5CD.jpg D5430D43-3DE8-4A72-A90A-6338E6692692.jpg 09C3A8DE-CABF-4DB3-BA9B-6F63C78A8EFE.jpg DE50872E-EB97-4A48-A9D1-068B0DE38FEC.jpg
