Is the rear end howl only on 4x4 models or 2wd as well?

All of them can howl. Its the rear diff that causes the howl so 4x4 or not does not matter.

Yeah, mine howls. I just had a TFS look at it Thursday. 3rd time I’ve taken it in for the howl. No luck being my truck is a 2018 and a SR5. Dealer said he would issue some reports to Toyota this time to try to get them to fix non TSB Tacoma’s. I may end up fixing it myself. I have a long bed so I wouldn’t need new springs at the least.

OK. Hopefully they'll expand the tsb to the 18's. You'd think they would already apply it at production.

They may do that eventually, but I am not sure how that all works. The TSB came out in February which was 2 months after my 2018 was built. Maybe newer 2018's will have it? I doubt it though since its not a safety issue.

I think TSBs like this one are pretty much only for vehicles they list that exhibit the issue.

Not sure, probably after enough 18 owners bring it up. They may do it on the March on builds.

They still haven't even extended the TSB to the rest of the 2016-2017 Tacomas (AC and non TRDs) so I doubt any 2018's will see it any time soon. I'm going to see if my local dealer will cut me a deal on the parts this week. He said he is really interested to know if the TSB would fix non-TSBs and is a pretty good guy. You never know!

Do the 2WD's have the 8.75 rear diff? That's one of the qualifiers for that TSB.

I think they can? You can get a 2wd Off Road with locker and the diff with the locker is an 8.75, correct?

Will do! I'd rather not spend the $$, but I am really curious myself. I am 99% it will help out a lot just like it does on the TRD's. I got the tools, time, and the shop to do it. Now I have to decide if I want to spend the money ha
