We need more options that support BSM.

Yeah, the trailer plug wiring was a little aggravating. There's enough slack in the harness once you remove enough of the factory tape from the wire looms.

Thanks man, the wiring was two or three inches too short with the way Toyota routes the wiring, just had to undo a lot of it to get the extra slack.

I'm in Alexandria, stationed at FT. Belvoir. Where are you?

Finally got around to getting my rear bumper installed on the taco!! Absolutely in love with this lil gem, went with a CBI fuel holder as it was more in line with what I wanted my fuel holder and it would have resulted in a few to many modifications to our builders designs, so I just bought one of theirs and had it mounted up onto it.

Bumper is low profile, has hidden hitch mount and trailer plugs behind the license plate (chain up points are in behind the bumper), second hitch with camera relocate mount (for using a mountain bike/rack/etcO, hi lift mount in behind tire on an angle, cut outs for rigid ignite lights (still waiting on those damn things to come in)

The entire bumper is tucked up nice and tight to the tailgate, couldn't put it out far enough without the bumper having a huge lip off the back of the truck due to the curvature of the 3rd gens. The truck already had the ugly chin on the front, we figured we couldn't have it on the back. Would have been nice to be able to fit a shovel on the jack mount, but we had to sacrifice something to keep it in tight. The tire carrier was designed to fit with 34-35" max tyre size so it wouldn't block the tail lights with a wheel on. Right now I have Cooper STT pros at 265/70/17, which oddly measure out on the actual tyre to just of 32", but should be more like 31", still baffled on this one. Granted BFG measures typically an inch less in my experience then what they should. Anyways, once i am done with these tyres by end of summer ( I typically only get a year out of tyres, a lot of gravel roads I work on), think the next ones will be back to KO2's in 34x10 size, which is skinny and tall (just shy of 33" if I remember correct).

Yes I need to wash the spare tyre, I was out with a bad chest infection for pretty much a week, thought I was on the mend, went to go get the bumper and it came back with a vengeance, pretty much spent 2 days hold up in a hotel sweating and shaking, and wheezing. Felt like burning the room down for the hotel. But instead left a generous tip in my room for the cleaning ladies and notifying the clerical staff that everything in that room should be thoroughly cleaned.

I don't see that bumper on ARB's website. . .do you have a link? Looks like no cutting was required. . .love the look.

Also wish there were more/better options for bsm. This is my first vehicle with all the tech stuff and at first I scoffed at it. Now, can’t live without it. So convenient. It’s like when I first went to HD and DVR, once you’ve seen the light you can’t go back!
Someone should try and fab up some “swing-down” mounts for the sensors, so you can have them down when driving, but swing them up when off-roading.

No worries, I was wondering if I had wrote that in my post. Wouldn't have surprised me if I did as I was a wee bit out of it over the last few days with the flu/chest infection. Sadly that part is not going away anytime soon, I can tell it is going to be a clinger.

Your right no cutting required at all. There is only ten bolts holding the OEM bumper to the frame, one guy with my limited help do to sickness had it off in 30 mins and the replacement on in another 30. The longest part was the extension of the wiring (trailer, license plate). Mounting on the swing outs was another 30 mins, then it was final tweaks to alignments/etc.

The pictures show what looks like the bumper is touching the body panels on the bed. There is roughly 1/2" gap all around the bumper, its tricky to align a heavy piece of steal, oddly that bumper minus swing outs is only about 20-25lbs more then OEM and a hell of a lot better constructed.

ON a side note one does not have to take anything off the OEM bumper or truck to remove it. just unbolts, place some jack stands, fiddle with the damn alignment tabs and boom its off.

Someone may do it, but making sure all the sensors work to OEM specifications with variations in ride height, it’s not an insignificant engineering task. These companies have to consider liability exposure when they say these type of sensors are going to work properly under all conditions, the same way an OEM (like Toyota) does. Toyota pays their engineers a lot of $ to do extensive modeling/CAD/CAE work and then testing to ensure it meets all regulations for homologation. It’s really not so simple to just throw it together and expect the same result.

Great point made! In a perfect world, I want the looks and function of @Pelfreybilt ,the BSM of @C4 Fabrication, the simplicity of fabfour, and the kick ass of @Mobtown Offroad. But you... can’t always get what you want... :sadviolin::rockband:

Question for those with the swing out bumpers. Have you guys noticed any major differences in your handeling characteristics? I’ve been wondering if the weight in the very back makes a difference.

I ordered this and it gave enough slack where I didn't have to loosen the factory wires. I did try and loosen the factory wires to get enough slack out but I was not happy about the way the wires were pushing against the brake lines. I just tied up the 4 way plug to keep it out of the way.
