Sounds like you need a spacer lift.

Always wondered if you run 5100s with ome coils at the bottom setting if you could run a small spacer on top to make up for the settling after you put some miles on them:threadjacked:

Wow now I am freaked out... All I wanted to do was level things up - 2" front 1" rear but now I am paranoid.

BTW- I live near Treehouse Brewery in MA. Yes, it is the best beer in the country.

    I win.

Of course we all know that a complete suspension package is the ultimate way to set up a bolt on Tacoma build, but if you do most of your driving on pavement and occasionally hit a mild trail to go hunting, fishing etc., then a small spacer lift will work fine without repercussion. As long as the spacer sits on top of the strut housing you will keep the stock ride. I would advise adding a bump stop spacer to the bump stops, which are going to compensate for the added strut length thus preventing the strut from bending. The strut bends because the shock bottoms out too early on full compression which puts tons of pressure on the strut (without extended bump stops). That's the biggest reason you see the pictures of strut carnage that people post. If you use a small (1 -1.5") block on the back, I would recommend one that is tapered that corrects for pinion angle (corrects diveline angle). Based on what I have found, the 3/1 spacer lift kit that Low Range Off-Road sells seems to be the best engineered. If you want to get a slightly bigger tire such as 32's, then you can go even less expensive and get a 2/1" spacer lift by cobbling parts together. It's not rocket science.

Just go mega cheap, drill some holes in a rubber hockey puck and jam it above your struts. Add 2 for more lift. Good luck with that spacer lift.

Why the sarcasm? All I did was explain that by simply extending the bump stops one could easily avoid destroying the strut. Even if you spent 5k on a suspension lift, a late model Tacoma won't be doing any hard core wheeling anyway.

First I will say welcome to Tacoma World my friend.
Second, no sarcasm, was being completely honest. I lifted a Jeep with them drilled 1 hole and stacked them, saved me a lot of money.
3rd, your wrong that a late model Tacoma will not do any hard core wheeling, you will learn this here as you grow, research and read.
Fourh, I have both a Tacoma, and a Jeep, both lifted, Jeep has a spacer lift. Look closely and have fun here. There's a lot of it. I also wheel my Tocoma.

Thanks for the welcome as well as the explanation. I am also a Jeep owner from the Jeep world, hence my comment about wheeling late model Tacoma's. My Tacoma is a daily driver that is probably never going to see more than a dirt road to get to a hunting or fishing spot or to get to my cabin. So I will probably not be going to go all out with a King or Icon set up for it. I am sure you can make a capable Taco with bolt-ons that can get through some moderately tough obstacles. If I were to set up a Tacoma for hard core wheeling I would rip out the IFS suspension and go solid axle one tons, etc. Sort of like I did my Jeep. But, I digress. I just wanted to make sure that guys that aren't into serious off-roading of their Tacoma understand that they can safely, properly and inexpensively add a small spacer lift to their Tacoma without worrying about damaging their struts or otherwise.

Is that an ACOS set up in the front of your Cherokee? Also, what brand is the reservoir shock on the front? I ask because I am helping a buddy get his Cherokee upgraded at the moment. I like the nice work cutting the sheet metal on the front as well. Uni-body frames are always a challenge.

Nice! Both of your rigs. I noticed you have extended bump stops on there *wink*. Cars are so clean out west; so jealous. I now have about the same wheelbase on my TJ as a Cherokee has. I stretched the front frame ( didn't want full hydro steering) 4 inches and stretched the back with longer arms another 4". Now has a 102" wheelbase which is about perfect for the 37's. These toys get expensive and time consuming, huh? Maybe some day the Tacoma will get the same treatment.

Ha, yes, ext bump stop. Caught that. Very nice setup. Earlier in this thread are several of my toys. Might want to check them out. Love building 4x4 projects. 90% of them are sold to someone outside of CA.

I read the entire thread. Seems to be a lot of vitriol here. You seemed to be one of the few that didn't act like a 12 year old. Gotta love the internet. The red Jeep yours? Pretty nice CJ. Yeah, seems we have the "loves to build 4x4's" thing in common. I have had many, all Jeeps until the Tacoma. Here's a couple of pics of my JKU that I built and sold. This one had Dynatrac D44's, 4.88 gears with Eaton E-Lockers, Rubicon T-Case, 37's etc. I really love this truck though. Better than the fullsize GMC it replaced. I can see why you hooked yours up. I am trying my best not to sink big bucks into this truck...:)

Yes, the Red YJ is mine, you know your Jeeps. 37s on your Jeep is AWESOME, and it's no BS you can dump a ton of money in this insane hobby. I am doing a SAS to a 97 Suburban right now with 1 tons. Here is a pic with it missing a leg. Coach is 100% clean also has a new motor. Suspension, axles are shot. It's going to be my new tow rig.

Another great example of a clean car from the west. I think it will be a great tow rig. I would get a 14 bolt for the rear and a D60 for the front. I have Currie Rock Jock D60's on my TJ. It's good to overbuild...;-)

That's just what I have. Lots of parts, never enough time. Hope to get back on it this weekend.
