Was hoping to get some advice here I’ve owned an 06 prerunner a 2015 TRD SPORT 4wd, and now a 2016 TRD OFF-ROAD and I am just not happy with the new setup. I know I’m not the only one that has asked the same question, but it drives me nuts the transmission setup and lack of bottom end torque. It feels as if the 3rd Gens are not made anywhere as durable as the 2nd. I feel like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Should I go back to the 2nd gen I can’t decide

You know what you like, buy a 2nd if it makes you happy.

I love the comfort of the 3rd Gen but the durability and performance of the 2nd so it’s tough.

First, you've got a great looking truck you've already put some money into with the suspension and tires. I have no doubt the 285 KO2's you're running are really taxing your truck's performance. If you don't need an E rated tire and would consider a small downsize, I think you'd be much happier with how it drives. If that's not acceptable, you could spend the cash and re-gear to 4.88's. Sounds like the people doing this are extremely pleased with the outcome. Yeah, it aint cheap, neither is license plates, taxes, and similar mods you'll do on the 2nd gen. Or just throw it on Craigslist and see if you can get what you're wanting out of it, make the switch, and don't look back. No need to feel trapped in a truck you don't care for.

I wouldn't pitter patter back and fourth like that...

If your not happy with the new Tacoma, trade it on a new F150 or GM..

You will be undoubtedly happier switch brands than going back in time only to regret that decision as well after the realization..

The new Tacoma has more power than the old one...lol

It just has a really "detached" feeling over the 2nd gen.. So you think you dicked yourself, but you didn't..

    Drive it.

And get a proper size tire...lol

It don't matter what you drive, your gunna feel that size tire..

Try the shift sense pro before you make that big jump.

Its saved a lot of people a lot of money cause they didn't trade in their 3rd gen after installing it. I have one as well and love it on setting 3.

Not trying to start a fight, but have you considered a manual trans?

I own the 2016 manual, I can say my 2nd gen was a hell of a lot better....
I'm actually looking for a used 2016+ f150 lariat with a 5.0 now, same fuel economy as my taco with more features and power.... Feeling done with Toyota and the underpowered bad mpg engine, they always are nickle and diming the consumer every year....
Projectors with halogens..... My wifes corolla came with HIDs in 2014 and it is the base model....
    Lost front bed rail.
    Lost drivers side OS handle.
Lost push button start and proximity entry by buying a manual.
Lost opportunity to have JBL by buying a manual.
If I got a pro I would have lost the ability to have a sunroof too.
    No power rear tailgate lock......
More minor things too too many to list.... Toyota knows people buy their vehicles for reliability and resale, and they just take other amenities from us to make more money.

Well that’s good for you because Toyota Tacomas have the highest resale value of any truck or SUV on the road for the past 23 years.

    Raptor has highest resale.
Not officially, but try to find a used one they sell higher than new msrp.
