Recommend me the perfect teardrop or mini camper

This is what attracted us to the TM. We tent camped for years. The TM is like a hard sided tent basically but you can store and transport your gear all inside. When we get home it takes me about an hour to empty it, clean it, and store all our gear back inside. There’s no having to set a tent up, clean it , let it air out, and then packing away. This was just the best option for us and I have room to park it

It will fit in the garage just fine. I had a 1950s era house with single garage. Had to crank the jack.to full height to drop the ass then went in just fine. I think garage door height was maybe 7 foot or so. And I did all this by hand. My favorite part is how light it is. I move it around by myself and back it into the garage . It helps that I am young (ish) and lift weights but super easy to move.

Thanks. Do you know the inside dimensions by chance? All I can find is 6'10" wide I think but not if that's with wheels or just box.

Also, I haven't been thinking pop up much, but for similar price you get a lot more space, propane, water, etc. What do think are the pros/cons of a TM or similar vs a pop up? Other than setup and such you just mentioned. Just looked at a rockwood 1640 esp for example.

 

I went out and measured the interior and got 92"x58". We looked at pop ups like the hard sided A-liners and yes they are great and have lots of amenities. The deciding factor for us was how sturdy/ heavy duty they are built and we wanted something we were confident in taking off road. Granted I fully admitt the TM isn't sturdy enough to take rock crawling or anything but I have nodesire to do that anyway. Our goal is to get it to where we can get out in some rougher terrain and off the grid and after seeing first hand how well constructed the TM is and how it's outfitted it suits our needs to a T

 

While I think the TM is an interesting camper, after lots of searching I think I like the Oregon Trail'r best. The Moby XTR is also really nice. Most of these are rather pricey. I guess that's the "price" of a small, local manufacture over something mass produced.

 

Cool camper! We started out ooking at tear drops and still really like them. I thought you wanted a seating area though?

 

I do. Nothing has all that I want. I figure I can use pillows or something to sit up but not ideal. I like the small size, nearly normal kitchen, on board propane but by the time you add all that stuff it's pushing $20K. Could get a rockwood popup for about half that and have more room. Might not fit in the garage though. Being poor sucks.

 

Maybe check out Craigslist for a pop up with a 8ft box. scored my jayco eagle 10fs for 500 bucks.sleeps 6+ , fridge, heater, stove, and outside shower. On board water, and 2 propane tanks with auto switchover.but mines a 10ft box.

 

There's also a few builds on expo on old apache trailers if you want a project .they're amazing what they've transformed into.

 

That's why I'm building my own.

Sleeps 2 adults, 2 kids though could easily adapt for 3 kids. Kids have a bunk bed that converts to a sofa, adults have roughly a queen bed. 15' overall length, 6' from ground to roof, same track width, wheels and tires as truck. The only thing missing is instant gratification.

 

Oaky, I realize I'm all over the place with my thinking, but please bear with me with as I research my options and figure out my desires.

As I mentioned, my priorities are what I call "awake space" or space to sit, drink beer/coffee, play games when the weather is bad and ease of cooking and heating with plumbed propane. Some of the mini tear drop types have this stuff but they get expensive quick. I wasn't really thinking pop up but after viewing a few I think I can get on board with that. The larger Rockwood/Jayco stuff is nice, some are small enough to fit the garage but ultimately they seem like cheap mass produced stuff.

Anyway, if you have or have seen anything like a mini trailer that "pops up" to give sleeping space while leaving the trailer itself for "awake space" please share. The VMI Canyon is one iteration of this that looks really nice but also really expensive in my mind. Something smaller and cheaper would be perfect.

The TM with a RTT would be one way to go, but going to be pushing $20K and it's already almost too tall to get into my garage.

 

Maybe a jumping jack trailer. But you would have to plumb it yourself..
