I would monitor the Planos for the price. Or use camelcamelcamel.com to watch it. Add to your cart and then just leave them there. The price fluctuates. Or get a store locally to price match when they are low like @HCJ . I have the 42" one and its great for our cabs. I think I got it when it was $68? I am not sure. But have seen the price go allover.

Those tilting slides are too much for my blood. They are like $300+

can you believe I am looking at shells again? I would actually buy the canopy setup from @ChandlerDOOM if he could get it to my specs.. I will not get a shell now though

Yeah it'd be all around cheaper to just modify the drawers and use a regular slide, since those can be had for cheap. I'll likely do the prinsu and plano since I'll get more use out of that, and the fridge can come later

Personally I'm a big fan of the Prinsu compared to the other racks I've seen in person.

Me too! And I already have one on the truck, so I want the matching one for the shell

Yeah the swingout in general is minorly annoying to have to open whenever you want to access the bed. I still love it though, because of it's utilitarian look and benefits it brings to the table

Well well well.... now the troubles of the swingout comes to light. Looks like my idea of a beefed up fold down tailgate with integrated tire carrier is looking better and better

haha no, definitely not. The idea of lifting up a 90lb wheel/tire plus the weight of whatever you fabricate (won't be light) is far worse than swinging something open.

I think what he's talking about is a tailgate that functions like a normal tailgate (lifts up and down) but holds a spare on it.

That's true, I forgot you don't have a cap. For my set up it wouldn't work well because I need to open the tailgate to access my drawers. That's why I want to put my common recovery gear on the roof so I can keep it all closed

Basically what I'm getting out of this is that people set up their trucks to work for them. What works for me doesn't work for you and vice versa. Would you agree with that?

We now see the troubles of a swingout. To use the "on the hill" situation, wouldn't a 90lb tire and whatever the weight of the swingout is be very heavy also? yes it's on a fixed point that rotates, but what about when you want to open it? that will be just as heavy on (what seems like) everyones frail bodies. That same weight will be there when you want to swing it closed. What's the point of the swingout tire carrier if you will be rearranging everything just to keep the swingout now CLOSED?!??!

How about everyday use? You need to swing open just to get to the tailgate. better not have cars parked behind you! Oops, gotta move the truck just to load shit. Obviously this would be more of a problem in busier areas, but not everyone lives in rural America.

The design I'm thinking up can work with a cap or bed rack or even a bed cover. I'm also tossing around some ideas on keeping the OEM tailgate so it will be just as weather tight as OEM is.

anyway.... I'm just saying there's more than one way to skin a cat. Also, any given way won't please everyone since we set up our trucks in very different ways for different uses.
