    Yeah I agree with that
It's really not that hard to open and close on a hill. It'll just be easier to not have to open and close it and just reach on the roof for what I need. Plus some recovery situations require quick action, so it's dual purposed. It's the same idea behind my desire to put a molle system on the inside of my drivers side windoor with a few small items for easy access, i.e. air up/down tools, flash light, knife, etc. Like you mentioned before, it's me fine tuning my truck for my specific needs.
Again, peoples specific needs like you mentioned. This isn't my DD and I'm never in a situation where I'm parallel parked, making opening the rear impossible.

If a swingout doesn't work for you, that's all fine and dandy. I'm just stating that in my opinion a tailgate that holds a spare on it that you open and close like a normal tailgate is going to be one heavy motherfucker and a huge pain in the ass to open and close.

honestly, all that I have been thinking about was the tailgate itself. I didn't even begin to think about anything else. I'm all ears and welcome any and all brainstorming.

@Redmann you could do something like this. Would be easy to fab up a holder with your headache rack. Then just toss it in when you go wheeling

that tire carrier is a cool idea @fatfurious2 I'm trying to keep it all to one moving piece though. tire holder and tailgate in one.

I might even just say screw it and not try to make anything. it's not that big of a deal to me to have the tire in the bed. I just like the LOOK of the tire on the ass end of our trucks!!

thats where my spare is right now. strapped to the headache rack. makes my rear view mirror damn near useless too, but thats not all that bad

Same here with mine on the swingout. Between the cap and the tire taking up half the window (and the stickers) looking out the back is damn near useless. That's why I needed to add a back up camera

thats great and all but when I'm carrying plywood or longer 2x4s, tailgate gonna be down. I use my truck for different things.

I appreciate the ideas guys and the brainstorming. honestly, it was just going to be a fun little welding project for me, nothing more. I have plenty of scrap metal at work, so I figured I would try my hand at making something. tire in bed might be the best bet at this point.
