while driving on interstate about 70 mph, sometimes I hear a short (1 or 2 sec) high pitched buzzing noise on passenger side. It only happens when 45 degrees or colder. It definitely sounds outside towards mirror. I checked the rubber trim on roof thinking it got loose in cooler weather and wind caused vibration. The noise is wind induced as it never does it below 65 mph. It sounds like plastic resonating. I have concluded it must be the outside mirror housing that sometimes buzzes (vibrates). Anyone else heard similar noise. Not taking to dealer as it would take forever to replicate and not worth hassle. Figure when warms up it will never happen until cold weather again. Appreciate any advice

Does your mirror have paint protection film on it? A lot of times those cause a high pitch noise when the wind hits it the right way. If not I would probably think it’s the mirror itself. Try and get a video of it and show your dealer.

No paint protection film. I have seen posts about the weatherstripping producing a “kazoo” type noise. I didn’t think it could possible be the rubber seal between the door and frame. The noise sounded high up like at the roof where the window curves down and that would be where the weatherstripping noise is located. There is a TSB 0170-16 that replaces the rubber with a thicker seal. I am taking it in tomorrow. The Service Mgr said since the TSB applies they don’t have to replicate the noise. If it fixes the problem that’s great but difficult to believe rubber could resonate like that.

I'm not sure if it is the same thing but both my 3rd gen and 2nd gen would have a kazoo effect off of the mirrors when at highway speed and there was a crosswind just the right direction .

Hey OP.... next time it happens, fold the mirror inward and then back out.... any change in the mirror position should stop ir IF it's the mirror.....

More likely the door weather strip, though. Good luck

Shaunsquatch, if you fixed it, how did you do it?

Over60: it is usually on passenger side and it intermittent. Never lasts more than 2 secs. Can’t reach from driver seat. I hope it is weatherstripping. Just hard to imagine that rubber, squeezed between door and frame, vibrating .

Yes, my TRDOR has power mirrors. If it is possible to get the “kazoo” noise from rubber seals , that is probably what it is. The sound is coming from near the roof. I just thought it would only be possible from the plastic mirror housing. The mirrors are manually foldable for garage width. I guess the air gets in that thin slot around door and vibrates.

Mine whistles in a very strong cross wind.... the wind goes over the roof and then creates a low pressure area that sucks air outta the cab and the rubber vibrates, creating the whistle.... very loud in a very strong wind.
