It was either these or a set of TRP Quadriems. The thing that swayed me was the TRPs had a 2 week lead time, and Zees arrived next day (helps that Backcountry is basically next door...)

I've only had them on a short time, but the levers feel SUPER solid as compared to my bulllshit tektro aries mech disks before. I also love the dimples they put on them. They stop the wheels on my fatbike like a brick wall if you jam on the brakes, which I fully expected being freeride/DH brakes. 7-8lbs of rotating mass isn't easy to stop, and these gave me a lot more confidence after the accident that made me buy them in the first place last week.

I'm still a little miffed at Specialized for the tektro brakes they put on. I mean sure, I got the budget SE model, but unless you are just out for a casual ride in the snow, those brakes were all but useless. Seems like every other fatbike has really good brakes because of big, heavy tires and physics, just not this one.

this is the view from Raccoon Mountain. Downtown Chattanooga is to the left and Lookout Mountain is to the right. That's my bronson on the left and a friend's yeti on the right.

Funny, mine went on a fat bike as well. Replaced broken DB5s (both front and rear locked up. I believe same problem that plagues Guides). So far these are my favorite brakes with one issue. They do start to stick a bit in -20C weather which may be due to mineral oil nature and the seals used in such brakes. I may swap my XT M780s from my trail bike and see how they do in extreme cold. I think I paid $90 per side in a retail box with bleed kit and bottle of oil included.

anyone who wants to set up tires tubeless but doesn't have a compressor and doesn't want to spend that much money, this hack works!

    https://www.singletracks.com/blog/mtb-videos/watch-cool-tubeless-tire-inflator-hack-less-10/

I just tried it last night and it works awesome!

EDIT: for new tires, install the tire first with a tube so the tire knows it's round, and not folded rubber, and then both beads will get mounted. After that, pop one bead, remove tube, insert tubeless valve, add sealant, reseat, and use the tire inflator and boom!

Just picked up a 2010 Giant STP SS on Sunday to try something different, improve my skills mostly, play at the pump track, skills park, take advantage of skate park couple blocks from my house, maybe try some small dirt jumps? Nothing crazy really.

Also figured it could be a great bike to take with me whenever I travel places or road trips that are not mtb specific where I don't want to always be worried about my trail bike being stolen from the bike rack on the back of the truck. This one I can take with me and just hide under the toneau cover with front wheel removed, explore new city I'm visiting on bike, hit some pump track and easy trails when I find something interesting on the way or just practice wheelies or manuals whenever I have a bit of time while on the road. In these cases I will just take my spare longer seatpost and saddle and swap as needed. Will see how that all works out...:D

What should a bike like this be worth these days? Mine looks like in really nice shape so far. Just curious how much I overpaid

Good to see you're getting back on the trails dude! We should ride soon.

Anyway, for tubeless, I've been using the Lezyne Classic Dirt Drive pump for years and have never needed a compressor or the method you posted, or seating the beads with a tube first. Just install the tire one time with the pump and done.

Edit for a pic of my truck and bike, because why not:

    Yeah.
Bicycle Blue Book shows $125 on the low end and $204 on the high end. It was over $900 new, so that seems a bit low, but it is 8 years old. I would think $300 or under for one in perfect condition is fair.

@kryten keep in mind this is USD. From what I've seen on PinkBike for my area(Alberta) that bike would probably be going for $500-700 depending on condition.

I paid $400CAD (in Alberta, was listed for $600) so about $306USD as of today. I guess I did ok. I will post a picture later. Cant wait to go for a ride.

Damn that's a good deal, everything I've looked at that's $400 or so is a few years older than that.

I 'missed out' on an 06 cromo P2 for $125 couple weeks ago, but wasn't feeling it from the sellers responses. Plus figured 12 years is a lot for a jump bike. Even 2010 is pushing it imho, but luckily I'm not going "to the sky" just yet so should be fine.:rofl:

So I got to to get out today for the first time on my new bike and really test it out. I did a conversion on my 111 from what it’s supposed to be 29er to a 650b (27.5). I had seen a thread on a bike forum on how a bunch of guys did this with this frame and absolutely loved it. So I gambled and tried it myself spendinging big coin in the process buyin my wheels. I was simply blown away to say the least. Every bit of handling was a blast and this bike climbs like nothing I’ve ever been on. The geometry on this thing is just something else!!

That frame looks like a pretty nice platform. I’ve been wanting to build a FS bike, possibly later this year. I may go this route. What is the frame material?

all of these are my daughters except the Mach6...the Juliana now has a different i9 wheel set on it as well as bars and stem from Deity. the Kona is still pretty much like it is in the pics but it gets a new drivetrain this week. the Pivot Point has a new wheel set on it as well as bars and stem and Fox 32 fork. p5pb15134372.jpgIMG_3747.jpgIMG_3294.jpgIMG_2952.jpg
