Hi Tacoma world, I’ve had my 2012 2.7 4x4 for two years now and I wheel very frequently and do the occasional highway beach trip. The truck only has 33,000 miles and I’ve had zero engine problems from the time I’ve owed it until now. I change the oil like religion and the only thing I’ve replaced is the power steering pump.

Now on to the problem. I think I’ve got a leak of some sort. I check my truck top to bottom a few times a month and today I noticed the the underside of the engine is covered in oil and dirt. The oil coverage starts just below the crankshaft pully and coats the block, all hoses near it, the steering rack, part of the oil pan, part of the front axle and the front frame arm. I’ve included pictures for reference. The oil seems to cover more of the passenger side parts below the engine.

I’m not sure if this is a legit engine oil leak from somewhere like the oil pan. Or if it’s a steering rack leak. Or a front diff leak. Or a leaky line or hose.

Any help would be great so I can get this patched up. Thanks

Spray it down, wipe it clean, then wait a few days and to see see where it’s possibly leaking from.

For all you know, you could have hit oil on the road and had it splatter up

Soak it with a degreaser and pressure wash it so you can see where the leak is originating from.

Sorry to hear that man. Hard to tell what exactly it is or where it's coming from in the pictures, though. Has your oil pressure light come on?
