Nothing wrong with the 2nd gen, but that interior was too old and not updated towards the end of its run. Every Gen has flaws and room for improvement.

Raptors are $55K plus, My Tacoma was $35K, full size vs midsize, apples to oranges comparison.

Side note, transmissions back to back, I am not in the camp that the gen 2 is better than the gen 3 in MT .

    06mt, 11at and a 2017ORMT.

16k on this clutch and it handles much smoother in all conditions. I use it in from towing a boat to 4wLo up steep trails. Handbrake being where it is wraps it all up. No issue rowing gears in technical areas

    Just my 2c

I think my 4 cylinder 09 responded better than this 17 v6. Still enjoy the 17 though.

My new Tacoma was $31,500 almost enough money left over to buy my used Porsche 911S (997) and yes it’s a manual and another naturally aspirated V6 back there.

I'll say it again, still havnt seen proof a 3rd gen frame won't have issues down the road.

    Really?

I can say when I went from my 06 to my 11at thinking how much of a complete dog my 06mt was and how much quicker at everything the AT was. And that's with comparing my 06 to my 01 f150 v6 (not the i6) MT.

And then when I went to this latest model it felt like I was moving back to where I wanted it to be, with the exception of the rpm range being higher than most people would like their trucks to be.

With my ford being the best MTv6, this truck would be a close second and the 06 dead last no questions.

I think it's the rpm range that has been the effect. When banging around on the dirt roads, the 09 was way better driving fun. The 17 is fun, just don't get the same response I remember.

My best vehicle ever was my 1st Gen Tacoma and I got passed by ricers and grandpa vehicles all day long. 190hp with a topper, bed rug, furniture and whatever else in the bed was painful to drive on pavement. Off road, it was awesome.

Don’t get me started on the 5000lb 4Runner.

My old 08 and 15 both felt a bit more responsive than my 17, they could effortlessly climb long hills in 6th gear without downshifting, in the 17 I need a good running start to attempt to climb those same hills without downshifting. It is still alot of fun to drive the 17, just a different experience and a little more work.

I could drop down from 3rd into 2nd dig in, now I need to give it a second or two and then it gets going, but not digging in. I may consider the tune at some point, but not till I've passed at least the 36k mark.

That's fine and all, and I don't necessarily disagree with you, but.....we have seen what happens to second gen frames. Bottom line is it's hard to take a conversation about the reliability of the second gens with their history vs. hypothetical third gen issues (not necessarily your statement) seriously. There are real reasons to prefer a second gen over the third gen, and vice versa, people should use those instead is all.
