I had 60K on my originals. Bought factory densos and my gas mileage hasn’t changed.

My '09 had 130K on it when I bought it a few months ago. It still had the original plugs in it and I changed them out and it runs and idles the same and the mileage hasn't changed a bit, which sorta pissed me off. Point being, 30K plug changes is overkill, in my opinion.

Probably should have taken the extra time to index the plugs...then you wouldn't be pissed!

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Dude, your just now are finding this out because you changed the plugs yourself and noticed this. It's nothing new, incorrect, wrong, etc. it's normal.

Toyota's been doing this for years and nobody really knows for sure as to why Toyota installs different brand spark plug brands on either side of the Tacoma engines when leaving the factory. (don't know if this is the same for Tundra trucks or any other Toyota vehicles for that matter?).

It's always been a mystery. But if you do go to the dealer and buy spark plugs for your Tacoma, they're going to hand you a set 6 Denso spark plugs. The dealership seems to never carry NGK's for some unknown reason or another.

By the way I would stick with either Denso or NGK spark plugs and nothing else, just saying.

I agree it is overkill. I now do my plugs and diff fluids about every 50-60K miles which equates to annually, usually April or May when the weather is perfect here. No need to follow the 30,000 mile suggestion from Toyota, they just want your service business which is understandable.

Toyota is part owner of both Denso and NGK. That may be why they put both plugs in our atacos, although that dont explain why its not done in other V6’s.

Toyota says, in the maintenance schedule, that the 30K plug replacement recommendation is per the Emissions agreement they made. Theoritically, you can run plugs a long long time as long as you keep them clean and gapped correctly.

Like everyone else, I do not know why Toyota uses 2 different brands of spark plugs in the 2nd Gen 4.0L engine.

What I do know is the Warranty & Service Schedule document for this generation of truck states spark plugs are changed at 30K. A footnote at the bottom of the page says:

"Maintenance services of spark plugs are required under the terms of the Emission Control Warranty".

Some emissions systems are warranted to 80K. Failure to change your spark plugs would invalidate that 80K warranty. What better way for Toyota to know you have not changed your plugs...use different brands on each bank. They cannot rely on dealer service records as many change their own or have it done at an independent repair shop. Who in the world would go to a parts store and buy 3 Denso/3 NGK plugs for a spark plug change? You are going to buy either Denso or NGK(in most cases) when it comes time for a plug change.

You are also going to need records to prove a 30K/60K spark plug change took place, else your 80K emissions warranty is non-existent. Seeing the same brand of plug on both banks tells the dealer it happened at least once.
