Day 2 of my welding class and I'm starting to feel more comfortable using the MIG. I'm fading halfway between these longer welds, but I've been practicing. I welded for 4 hours straight and I'm beat! But I'm literally loving every minute of it.

These welds are at 275 amps and 21.5v.

Thanks for the advice; I definitely feel like I'm moving too fast. I'll practice slowing it down for tomorrow night's class.

The oxidation is building up on my helmet. I was told to get some mag wheel cleaner to take that right off.20180320_134330.jpg

I swear if the New guys in my weld booth have maintenance change out another torch (second this month), hose, table, machine, or pedal I'm going to weld their box shut with hard facing rod.

Latest, ended up with a 375 wc torch.
Heaviest this machine will see is .049" tube....

Thanks for the baseball bat. And heavy duty Miller pedal. Compliments my rolley chair well. Haha kills me.

What did they do destroy your other torch??

Is there a reason you can`t get the torch you want??

In the past I have bought my own and it got locked in my box at night

Zero idea. Our weld engineer handles part ordering ( big mistake ). So I'm assuming that's the first tig torch maintenance saw on the shelf and saw it was going on a syncrowave and just threw it on.

Felt it tonight after about the 60th restricted .025" weld. Felt like welding with a telephone pole.

I'll go in Monday and state my case to see if I can at least get a 250 on there.

I don't even think the other torch is toast. It was brand new.

    My guess is welder....weldor...issues?

Oh well. Just gitter done right? Haha

So today's welding project I decided to make a stand for shooting steel targets. It is 3pc so you can take it apart for easy transport as I don't have a permanent piece of land yet to shoot at so the public ranges will have to do for now. This is 90% done just need to drill a hole in the vertical piece to bolt the target to.

Looks good Jon. Only suggestion I'd make is to have the upright at a 45 so that if you miss the steel and hit it you don't get a ricochet back at you from the flat surface.

That's a valid point I actually have a piece of angle I can put in front of the vertical 2X2 that should make it a bit safer right?

That way your round gets vectored towards the neighbors cow.

Just kidding. As long as your back stop is wide enough, no worries.

That would work nicely. You also want your steel to hang at a downward angle if possible. I had a 22 round ricochet off a stone in the silt pile and it came back at me. I wasn't hit but it'll scare the crap out of you when you hear noises of bullets hitting things behind you!

No cows up this way. Too many vegans...

    Rifle or Pistol?

For center fire rifle it doesn't matter, the bullet will go right through.

For pistol I'd just tip the whole thing 10 deg forward, which will deflect rounds down, and make the whole thing harder to knock over.

That's an even better idea mainly pistol target but I do have a 1" thick piece of plate that I thought would stop a rifle round, I heard somewhere anything over 3/4" "SHOULD" stop a rifle round. Does this sound accurate
