So what exactly is a "dark background"?

(Hoping it's not an obvious thing, lol)

I had created a dark theme for the old TW years ago using browser extensions. Maybe one day we can have a native theme like this.

So is this an energy saving issue?

    Just a visual "preference"?

I do find amusement in TW members asking for the staff of TW to do more work, since I don't know anybody who has an excessive amount of free time - but that is probably just me.

For the record, I like the background "as is", but if anybody wants to change it, so be it.

As was said above- thanks for the great forum- @tcBob

    More a visual "preference"
Totally understand the "more work" issue! Just a request, not a "have too" thing.Apologize for asking....

Actually depending on the device, a darker screen might have different results.

    I found this:

OLED displays, like those found in Samsung (and other) smartphones, on the other hand, have power consumption that depends on color being displayed. If i remember correctly, it was something like Red<Blue<Green, but that order would be device dependant, I remember that some smartphone had it as R<G<B. Basically in such situations, white is your enemy, search for apps that have night mode, since black color consumes minimum(not 0) power.

    Controversially speaking

Not true, most of todays LCD's consume more power for Black screens as the backlight remains at same power but pixel drivers need to fire. This was tested on Dell 2408WFP and Samsung SyncMaster B2230W. The monitor tested on the pcSTATS site is an antique and probably had some sort of adaptive backlight brightness.

There is definitely an eye strain factor too, especially when you're online at night in a dark room. Brighter screens increase the strain. Why Samsung has added a Blue Light filter feature to their phones. Mine's set to come on at sunset and go off at sunup as determined by the current timezone for my location. Some newer computer systems/ monitors now employ the same feature.

I for one have not been affected as is reflected by my post count in only 9 months of being a member. :D

For me, it's visual preference. Easier on the eyes at night. It's really not a lot of work to change some CSS code.

Lol, like all the "easy" things people ask me to do.....easy for them asking.

Just kidding, since I really have no idea how easy it is.

But it's not like this forum is constantly running on autopilot....or anyone on the staff never had anything better to do....or changing the background to black wouldn't lead to numerous threads....and those Chinese hackers....

    Nevermind, back on autopilot

Yea, like I said, I am averaging 16 posts a day (most of which are at night) and my eyes are 4 (glasses), and not young at 55 so there's no complaints from me! LOL
    :typing:

If I had to choose a color though I'd go with Inferno :D It just seems like the logical choice to me.
