I do agree with this too. I know I sat in back of an 18 Tacoma dbl cab and if front passengers move up some that I can ride in back and I am 6 ft. And honestly not bad comfort. That was with me setting the drivers seat up with me driving still and I was ok and not bad either. So I agree sometimes we think we need that 2200 square foot home with 3 bathrooms and stuff and 3 bedrooms and all that because we have 2 kids and need more space. Hell im 55 and when I was little it was 5 of us kids in 3 bedroom 1300 sq foot home and my two sisters shared a bedroom and my other 2 brothers and I shared the other bedroom with bunk beds and one other single bed. It was normal for us and was fine and no issues at all.

I upgraded from an 09 access cab to a 17 double cab to fit my almost 6 foot, 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter who is also pretty tall, and neither are skinny rails either.

Ok, on to the resale. Ever vehicle takes a big hit when you drive it off the lot, the vehicles with good resale don't keep losing value after this point. The Tacoma being one. If you need a bigger vehicle, maybe a truck isn't the right choice. Wait a few more years if you can and there will be value in your taco.

Sounds like you are not making good financial decisions and only want to get a new Tundra. Unless you and/or your kids are linebackers, there should be no issues fitting 2 adults in the back of a DC. Granted, I would not drive cross-country in the backseat but around town and other local trips, it should not be a concern.

With that said, it's your money and you don't seem to be replying to others in this thread giving you similar advice, so I am going to go ahead and say to trade-in your Tacoma take the hit and buy a brand new fully loaded Tundra.

As others have said, the offered trade in seems reasonable on your truck. New, I'm guessing it was around $33,000. So $28,000 trade in, or $5000 depreciation for two model year old truck is pretty good. You could possibly get a few more bucks on a private sale, but in most states this would hurt you on the taxes you'll pay on your new Tundra. Trade-ins come off of the top of the sales price so you only pay taxes on what you pay over the trade in value. (at least in my state) If you sell it then use the cash to pay for the new truck, you'll pay taxes on the entire amount.

It sucks but that's how it is. The good thing is end of quarter usually means dealers will negotiate pretty aggressively to move inventory. Especially Tundras as they are not as popular as Tacomas, Camrys and a few other Toyota offerings.

I got $29K for my 2016 on a trade last month. Sounds like the same truck, off road, bare bones, only the tow package. I owed 20K over the last 4 years. I did it because I wanted the loaded 18 I now have and my new APR was significantly better, so my payment didn't really change. Everyone's situation and finances are different.

Not sure if you have CarMax's around you but they usually offer more than the dealer. My dealer matched the Carmax appraisal. Good Luck

My guess is they're going to sell your truck for $31k so the trade offer isn't too far off. Just beware that if you're using the Tundra as only a family hauler and not to tow you're going to feel it at the gas pump.

You aren’t getting lowballed according to Kelley Blue Book value for my zip code.
It states $28,076 in good condition and $28,875 in excellent condition.
Private party is $31,800. If you want top dollar for your truck, you are going to have to sell it yourself. Which is a PITA unless you get a personal loan for $30k and obtain the title. Then turn around and pay off the personal loan when the truck is sold. The extra $3k might be worth all that hassle if your aren’t desperate for a bigger vehicle immediately.

#1 if you value your money, don’t take out loans on depreciating assets.

Good idea to go for a used Tundra you can pay cash for.

We can’t answer you on the value question. We have no idea what your loan terms are. Some people get themselves into loans where theyll always be upsidedown in their vehicle.

#2 those trade in values are good. Remember, trading in a car saves tax money. Youll have to sell the truck for more than youd lose in trade in taxes to break even.

Screwing yourself over financially doesn’t help your kids. I mean that in the most cincere way possible.
Don’t take out loans for vehicles.

Thanks for all the info.. I guess I should have clarified. Kids are just getting bigger. That means less trips in the Tacoma, more on the wife’s car and I should have added the bigger boat this summer as well. But looks like the more I hang tight, the better I will be..... Lease is up in 1.5 years anyway!

I never lease my vehicles (so I have zero knowledge about leasing rules), but the OP put so few miles on his tacoma maybe a lease is a better option? Would dealerships work with him to trade in the taco to lease a tundra?

Do you owe $30k on the tacoma or are you leasing it? as hinted above... I really don't know lease language but seems like saying you owe $30k on the tacoma and that the lease is up in 1.5 years, which seems counterintuitive.

A thousand dollars inequity is not that big of a deal. Go get the truck you want. Are you buying or leasing the Tundra?

Tell them if they want your business it’s 30k in person,if they don’t agree just leave and I bet the contact you later with a better offer. Just stick to your guns!stealerships make most profit off trade in.

Sorry, I should have been more clear.. Its a 3 year lease. Payoff is 30k. Lease is up 8/15/19...

    That should make more sense.
