Oil threads are my favorite. I also like the snorkel threads. Don’t ask me why.

Been using Mobil 1, the 1 and only, since 1980 when I went to work for a major oil company. I was hired as a geologist but since my position in the training program was out of sequence with my hiring I spent the summer with them in their chemical division. The company did oil tests in company vehicles and then they would be torn down and measured. Chemical analysis etc as well of course. I got to compile some of the data and view results. The Mobil 1 outperformed all conventional oils including our company products both in wear on the engines and in every test we used.

Now, truly lubrication science has come a ways since then and there are plenty of good oils out there on the market that are conventional, synthetics and Mobil 1 get my vote. But I also agree, for folks who run a vehicle to only 100,000 miles unless the vehicle sees severe duty it can probably live happily without synthetic. I have run several past 300,000 and there I think it does matter then, or towing, or racing, or any severe duty or extended interval fills.

This absolutely true. I worked for a Shell distributor for 17 years that also owned the tank farm the gas came from, and the only difference with the Shell gas was the additive metered into the tanker truck while it was being loaded.

Yeah, it all comes out of the big tanks in the ground.

    jarheads never do maintenance.

Army and Airforce routinely sample and test oil, only replaced if contamination is bad or engines are overhauled.

First hand knowledge....been there done that........was once in and was once a jet engine technician, back when it was not a replace engine job.

yeah, I've got extensive first had knowledge y'all wish you had.

What's better, an oil thread or an octane thread? I never understand people having such strong feelings on oil, use the weight the factory recommends and buy what you want? It's all doing the same basic job.

You clearly are "that guy". Congrats on not knowing what you are talking about.

PS, as a jarhead we did pm, as an attachment rman we did pm, as a Seabee we did pm.

When's the last time you even saw an MRC deck, or did 3M?

The problem with oil threads is that you get a bunch of people who know nothing about oil giving opinions. Even worse they don’t realize that they don’t know anything about oil and what they think they know is often incorrect.

It's like asking someone "how longs a piece of string"....seriously I change my oil with an OEM filter every 5k using synthetic. I've used whatever was on sale, M1, QSUD, Castroil, Pennz etc. I can't tell the difference and I doubt my truck can either. I'm getting ready to run Valvoline cause it's on sale for 23 bucks.

This is a TW oil thread. There's no room for logic here.
    Out you go! :annoyed:

Hey jarhead, I know EXACTLY what I am talking about. you must be the new military.

when I was in, PM was done all the time, OIL was not changed on a regular basis on ANYTHING. the PW powerplants in the f-15's never got the bearing oils changed UNLESS there was a reason, IE full tear down, damage, inspection showed contamination.

Now it is ALL civilian contractors,

Since you THINK I don't know what I'm talking about I will not entertain your bullshit. You have no fucking clue what I know or what I have done.

A 3M...MRC deck......sorry, FLIGHT LINE JET ENGINE MECHANIC..........not a construction guy or motor pool dude.

over a decade ago things were different, not surprised if the PM scheduling has changed, MY MOS was cut while I was in....civilian contractors now.

    fuck this thread.

Use whatever brand/type of oil you're comfortable with. I do. Just don't fret over it. Change it when you're supposed to, with the proper viscosity and move on with life.
