I don't think 1Up offers group discounts. They don't even offer discounts to bike dealers but it maybe worth a shot.

Do you have the standard or heavy duty 1up? I borrowed an old standard 1up and it only cleared by like 1/8” when folded down.

    Have any pics by chance?

On the TRD Pro is the standard with an adapter for the 2" hitch. The rack came from the car we traded in so it was 1 1/4". My 01 Taco has the heavy duty 1Up.

I'll take pics of the clearance with tailgate down when I get back to Atlanta.

I’m not near my 3rd gen or my 1Up heavy duty rack to measure, but the clearance with tailgate down is enough that they’ve never touched, even if I let the tailgate fall (and my soft opening damper is pretty weak), over two years now.

Went and picked up my Alta Rack on Saturday! The forecast called for rain and snow all weekend, yet remained sunny and 55. :notsure:

Since the weather was so nice, I decided to try and burn in the new brakes on my fatbike on Sunday at Eagle Mountain. Loads of fun and I forgot how fast those tires roll when pumped all the way up. The downside of a fully rigid bike on rocky terrain is my jaw hurts from all the rattling around on the downhill parts.
    20180325_114510.jpg

Well, by nature of telling me that the rack was designed for offroad use...it MUST be tested. Eagle Mountain started as a network of OHV trails, so why not branch out a little? That rack didn't move an inch side to side the entire time. Not exactly rock crawling, but much more aggressive than what we would normally put a rack through.

Yeah, the downside is I bought the rack ahead of plan because of a trip to Colorado this weekend...then my riding partner bailed because his roomie went all aggro, and he has to move this weekend now.

I assume you can drop your bed without any clearance issues?

Nope it hits on one of the tire holds. I believe the 2nd gens had no problem hitting. Im just going to add some padding...

Yeah, they are pricey and it was a little tough to swallow in the short term, but there are a few things about them:

They are almost OVER engineered because the guy that makes them is super picky about any sort of movement, replacability, etc. He probably re-torqued every bolt 3 times before he would let me sign off on the reciept.

Its purely local: He runs the company out of his garage, some subcontracted stuff is local fab shops, etc. All Utah Everything.

It's in LRIP right now but is actually going full rate this week since the name is finally out there and interest has developed. This may mean cost is going to decrease when velocity gets established.

The thing I like the most is the adjustable baskets. You can pick 3 sizes reg, plus, and fat to fit your tires adequately, and then the baskets can slide laterally on the rails, so things don't touch at all.

Also, it surprised me, not going to give out numbers, but we talked a bit about costing, etc and the amount of profit made on these racks is shockingly low..

@ripRavioli yes, my 2nd gen gate can clear the slam latch by maybe an inch.

Speaking of, the catch pin has a zerk fitting on it! So there shouldn't be any stuck hinges.

Also, its kind of a gimmick, but it has a repair stand attachment that slides into that triangle on the vertical post. Saves some room not having to pack a stand.

yeah i have seen one or two floating around here in SLC, sadly due to someone breaking into my truck and stealing some ski boots and my jacket ive been set back on buying a rack once again, though im glad someone is going above and beyond with the North shore style, those are nice racks but not high on my trust level.

i totally get the handmade here in slc over engineered, if i had the cash i would... they look great. sadly probably going to still go with a kuat or something along those lines. nice and all, but who wouldnt want one of those Alta Racks!

Yeah, I was super close to getting a 1up 2 bike, but having the option for up to 6 bikes beats out 2 any day.
