I hear that. Even my 6 cyl was having a tough time at altitude going through the 11K passes between Ouray and Durango with 3 guys, bikes and camping gear for a 4 day trip.

Yea unfortunately it still does.. It is just barley, Im just going to apply some padding to the needed spots and should be good. I was bummed too cause my friends 2nd gen clears so I thought mine would to. But they made the truck bed deeper on the 3rd gen which means longer tail gait. I personally still find it to be a bad ass rack and worth it. I was able to get a great deal with my local shop by asking for a bulk order deal, my friend and I both bought one so he only charged us $400 a piece. Maybe you can do the same with your local shop?

Only problem with EJS is lodging/camping. Bike trails should be pretty empty. Especially on Sunday. Everyone will be heading home.

Im really impressed with my Kuat nv 2.0, had it years and its been flawless, best thing about it is how easy kuat are to deal with if you need them, every part is available online at reasonable prices, my wife back into a post with my rack on and and the bits that broke were sacrificial and cheap, anything well designed like that gets a thumbs up from me

I was probably just gonna hit the Alaska trails at the very north end too. No real jeep trails around there I think, so it should be ok for an afternoon ride.

I hope to have some actual progress on another one of my velocipedes in a couple weeks. I have been waiting for most of this calendar year on some backordered HED rims to build my first wheelset.

Instead I will have to settle for working on this sweet ride. I left it at the shop for nearly two months, finally decided to pick it up. Probably going to be a mini build with all the parts I already have, but not as extreme as my Grom was.

Obviously the CF is gonna be a better bike, both in frame material and spec. But I guess the real question is do you ride it enough to justify the $1500 difference? If you originally went with the cheapest AL bike, my guess would be no.

However, speaking from experience, the "God Damn It" factor of realizing you should have spent the extra money to get the bike you REALLY wanted (within reason) can be a major bummer, esp if you plan on holding onto your ride for a while, not just a season or two. Don't put yourself in a bind for a silly bike though. If you have to, wait a bit longer and save your pennies. It will still be there.

EDIT: The CF colorways alone would be worth half the difference over the AL for me anyways. That storm grey is super cool.

    Here’s my last bike

    6zbqtu_788bce858f629afdf194b07b50535715e13b9e0e.jpg

When I’m not broken or recovering from surgery I ride a lot and live very close to some of the best riding anywhere in the nation. However the reason I thought I’d get a cheaper spec is cause I trash my bikes and shuttle a lot. Plus the top end Capra isn’t available for months! I don’t have a bike at all right now so I thought I’d get this cheap one and swap the slx derailleur/shifter for xtr and ride it until I can get the better one.

I like the white/red color which is what’s available the soonest for the cf model,my last 3 bikes were all cf. havnt owned a AL bike in a long(2005 turner dhr) time so I wonder if I’ll hate it after being on carbon DH and AM bikes for so long, but $2500 for a 170mm bike is just so damn good!

Fair enough, and sweet bike! I took a risk on the assumption, just kinda read like a newer rider to me I guess.

If you trash bikes quickly, the price difference gets you halfway to a second one with the AL. I'd probably keep your existing order. But the CF may last longer in the first place. IDK, I'd say that's a judgement call for you.

I might end up with a similar style rack instead of 1up, reconracks are my local shuttle rack option:eek:r north shore but I like the recon racks more. However only having the access cab I’m still considering the 1up

    North Shore < Recon Racks.

The NS design will mess up your forks after a while. I've seen a guy dump 4 bikes off a NS rack going over a speed bump too.

Not to sound like a Yakima fanboi, but the Yak don't touch. You can even set it up (the trays slide front to back) so that it's in the flat position and not touch...

Plus, Yakima has my business man. I called them about my 8 year old box (Skybox) that had sticking locks. They asked for a receipt, and just sent me a whole new box. Free, to my door. They also did the same for my frontloader when I told them the rack had surface rust a few years ago.
That's serious customer service from a larger company.
