It’s people like your friend that make me feel much better about my financial decisions hahaha. As my dad always says, it’s not a boat it’s a hole in the water that you throw money into.

payments didn’t change? did you get a longer loan.....that to me would mean you will pay more unless you got the same number of months left on the original loan to pay off this one.....

I have never leased a car (have only "had paper" on two and that was 35+ years ago) so I have no contemporary personal experience on the ways they screw you over on either--but I thought lease buyouts were not all THAT expensive...

He should have known better and started out with a Tundra to begin with. Buy a new truck and within a year because of the kids growth got to buy a larger truck. Kids don't stay kids . When my son was small (3) I use to always buy his shoes a foot larger because I knew he would grow into them making them last longer

yep. I have owned many bass boats!! Love them and sold my last boat back in 14 and have few people with boats and I just don't need one anymore. I can go with friends and pay and help with all fuel and food if I go with them. im 55 now and really enjoy more just going some times with them. Wife and I have really gotten into just seeing new food joints. also going to State parks and just in the city on weekends walking and checking out all the cars and events and buildings and stuff. Also like cruising to other cities and stuff, we also hike a like as long as it isn't a whole lot and not up hill. my wife has bad heart and pacemaker and just cant do too much but she tries to walk at least 15000 steps a day.

Shorter loan. The new loan is 60 months at 1.9% compared to the original 72 with 48 left at 4%. I added a year more of payments. If you took the new amount over 6 years its a lower payment, I chose the shorter term to pay it off quicker. I know that in the long run it will cost me more, but considering I drove the 16 for 2 years and 30K miles I didn't expected it to be an even exchange. I always make extra payments toward the principle and will have the new truck paid off in 4 years paying less interest, which is what I was on pace for with the 16.

The two best days of boat ownership are the day that you buy it and the day you sell it.

I think people saying that the tacomas resale is not tarnished based on the issues should also understand that the new tacomas have increased in price which also factors in resale value. These new tacomas will not have the same resale values as previous gens. Let's face it they are not building these of the same quality as previous gens, one reason why a lot of people are going back to 2nd gens or not upgrading at all. Talking to multiple Toyota GM's they have mentioned the amount of problems and headaches these 3rd gens have given them. I did like my 3rd gen but it only lasted 6 months before I got rid of it. The truck was underpowered, it shifted like crap, and the space in the second row was disappointing. I fault myself for not researching these enough before I made the purchase but I learned my lesson. My new truck is on a completely different level than even the tundra and it's hard to compare to the Tacoma. Ford has just completely put itself in a desperate category than anything else. I was never a ford guy but the eco and 10 speed trans is an absolute dream. The Tacoma will always have soft spot with me because of the previous gens but they have a lot to do before the quality has shifted back to what it was before.

The Tacoma is defiantly not perfect. Never has been. To say the 3rd gens haven’t been holding its value as well as the second gen. I don’t know about that
    https://www.johnsoncitytoyota.com/v...6-toyota-tacoma-trd-offroad-5TFCZ5AN6GX010012

Back in 2015, a TRD sport/off road stickered for $34k. In 2016, they stickered $36k bare bones and $38k fully loaded.

My local dealership has a 2016 TRD off road with almost 48k miles listing for $31,490. Short term these trucks have been doing well resale wise.

Granted the 3rd gen isn’t for everyone. If you are buying this truck for the resale value you are buying it for the wrong reason.

My truck has almost 22k miles and has yet to disappoint me.

It's hard to compare a 34k 2nd gen to a 41k loaded sport 3rd gen. It also depends on where your at. In Ohio some dealers are selling the tacomas for 3-4K to get rid of them. A second gen with low miles will demand more money than a used 3rd gen with more options and a couple years newer. Some states are getting more than msrp for some 3rd gens. Don't get me wrong I love toyotas, have owned them for a long time but they just don't build them the same. I looked at a tundra for example before the f150 and they are not even on the same level, the tundra platform is like 10 years old. i get better mpg in a half ton that can tow 13.5k than a Tacoma that can tow 6k. Again not trying to compare the two but it's just a reminder of what is this company doing.

I agree quality is slipping at major auto manufactors like Toyota because all they care about is how many cars they can sell in a year and impressing their shareholders.
    https://www.johnsoncitytoyota.com/v...5-toyota-tacoma-trd-offroad-3TMLU4EN9FM206405

At the same dealership there is a 2015 TRD off road with only 11k miles listing for $31,900. 11k miles is extremely low miles for a 3 year old truck. I understand pricing varies from region to region as well.

I understand that the 3rd gens have had some problems too and I have been lucky to haven’t experienced any of them but I am glad you are enjoying your new f150. They are great trucks.

yes they are great trucks. F150 is a good combo for half ton. And your correct on mpg. But some of us just do not want the full size and much prefer smaller truck. That said it really leaves us between the Tacoma, Colorado (which i have now in diesel with 54k and ready to trade ) , Ridgeline (just cant handle the looks) and the Frontier. The Colorado has its issues just as the Tacoma seems to also. All them do to some extent. I really believe none is better than the other just which one each of us like for all our own reasons.

Absolutely agree, I was having the same problem finding something that was not a half ton and still provided me with everything I wanted. I also looked at the diesel Colorado and almost purchased one. I think what sold me most on a crew cab half ton was the space, I have more space in my 2nd row f150 than my cousins Yukon, my son walks around in the back. It is absolutely amazing. I had to put the seat all the way up to get the car seats to fit ( one front facing and one rear facing). I'm sure it would have been the same in the Honda, the Colorado, and the frontier. Like I mentioned before I can't hate on Toyota but I'm just disappointed that the last few years have really gone down hill which made me choose other options. Yes the f150 is much more expensive to compare but there is a reason they sell a million plus trucks a year.

well I can tell you from all my Tundras it is nicer than my Colorado by far. I do enjoy the smaller truck getting around and space is wasted for my wife and I. We only use back seat area to haul stuff we take with us for the day or groceries if we stop or something. Id love to have the seat comfort and adjustments in the Tacoma as they do in the 4runner or f150 or tundra. Chevy boast how comfortable the Colorado is but mine is 2 years old and although it is better than the Tacoma because of seating position and at least 4 way seats it is not great at all. Definitely ok but nothing like your f150 or the others I mentioned. As far as the Tacoma otherwise I pretty much like the 3rd gen compared to all others in its same category with its interior and exterior looks. But honestly for people like me that just like the size of the smaller trucks for my needs it fits. As we all know these cost about as much as the full size. But to me its no different than some smaller suvs cost as much as bigger ones. Its what fits and what you like to each of us. But I 100% agree that all them can make better

How many of those GMs were around when 2nd gens rolled out. Again I struggle when some one dumps their taco to go to a full size. Even though I did upsize from an access cab to a double, I didn't buy the taco for the roominess.

I am curious about the 10 speed trans vrs the tacos 6 speed. I would think a 10 would shift more trying to stay in optimum mpg range.

From what I was reading, the only time it grabs all 10 gears is under full throttle. If it produces enough torque then it is probably not very shifty.
