Let's see that dyno sheet, love to see what the TQ curve looks like one one of those running flat out.

My friend who towed my 5-lug home for me just sold his '02 Chevy Tahoe LS for a 2017 Chevy Camaro SS 50th Anniversary Edition.

Part of me wants a new FRS or an old E30, and the other half of me wants to make the truck fast instead.

Being young is fun.... how the hell did I end up on this forum. I posted a thread two years ago asking a simple question about flushing the power steering system on my bone stock truck and somehow it has manifested into this insane obsession and I now own two Tacomas and converted the other one to 4WD and I'm not even close to being done with it.

This forum is truly the most expensive free membership I have ever been a part of.

lol i know. im just going to have to borrow someones car which will force me to get the truck done. but like you said this project is best done in bite size pieces. if it takes me a couple of years to finish but i can keep driving the truck and enjoy it then so be it. :) i rather enjoy the truck through out this project the have it sit on jack stands for way to long.

Haha oh man. I was freaking out about spilling power steering fluid on my alternator because I left the reservoir uncapped and I was turning it lock to lock. I didn't realize the fluid would overflow and there it went over my driveway and my engine accessories.

I seriously thought my engine was going to catch on fire.

    Oh how naive I was...

I had to rent the same kit from autozone to replace my uppers. Same price, for it all back when I returned it. They give you plenty of time, thought it was 45 days... thinks its called “master bearing press kit” or something similar.

well..sort of. I guess. I mean since the 2nd gens were designed to be reflashed from the factory for their blower install and OVT got the software and toyota allowed the same thing for 3rd gens. But anything earlier then that is a big no.

no. Its a 95 so the ECU isn't compatible. But I would like to turbo it someday using a MS3 PnP ECU.

Sometimes I wish I had a 2nd gen just for the part selection. the fact that we have the first gens that are still road worthy is amazing. I would love to see Toyota bring out a tribute for the first gens. Super simple, easy to work on, and the only driver aid is abs brakes lol. But we probably won't see it happen cause 90% of people want that technology witch craft.

And Monte your trifecta of tacomas would all be blown or turbo'd in a few years more then likely lol

The easiest (and possibly the least expensive) of those you listed is the turbo option. The reliability of each will depend on how well you complete the work.

I would estimate my turbo set up probably gained about 80-85hp at the wheels. Estimated since i did not have a baseline number, but from researching online I would guess the stock truck made ~100-105hp at the wheels at my elevation (5000ft) and afterwards it put down ~185hp on the dyno at 8psi with no tuning on pink top injectors. That is more than a 3.4 would put down at this elevation. My buddy had a S/C 3.4 with a 7th inj and he only dyno'd at about 10-15 more hp at the same dyno shop.

I'm not trying to convince you one way or the other, this is just what I know to add to your information.

yeah it would be super easy to build a nice and capable 2nd gen. I've thought of it myself. Have a great parts selection especially due to sharing suspension with 3rd gens.

I always wonder what would happen if someone released a truck like the 1st gens today..

and...probably everything will be boosted someday..

Delete the techno stuff and put a first gen body on a 3rd gen frame and im pretty sure quite a few of us would jump on those lol. Exept a few hardcore first gen guys who'll look at those and yell "abomination"

It increases it a bit. You get up to speed plenty fast. Just need good brakes, suspension, and don't run it crazy. I haven't towed with it yet though.
