Yeah - Usually try and hit each group 2x a week but I'm getting pretty burnt out soon into this cut. May just need to bump the calories back up a bit... and the work schedule last couple months probably doesn't help.

What are your cals and macros?

My workouts are in essence the same between bulk and cut, the effort level and weight changes.
I do my typical routine but back the weight off to bump the reps up to 10-15.

The exercises are pretty much the same.

Mon- Upper Body (focus Military Press)
    Tues- Legs (Focus Squats)
    Weds- Cardio
    Thurs- Upper Body (focus Bench)
    Fri - Legs (Focus Deads)

I’m used to doing Wendler 5/3/1 but don’t do iton my cut because... well you’ll run yourself into the ground lol

I keep the same routine but just start the day with the main lift. Its my heaviest. My other exercises for the day are all about reps.

    Yeah mine are pretty similar

    Mon - Push (Bench Focus)
    Tues - Pull
    Weds - Legs (Squat Focus)
    Thurs - Push (Shoulder Focus)
    Fri - Pull (Extra Arms)
    Sat - Deadlift Day

Cals for the cut are around 2500
    185 P
    250 C
    85 F

    Currently 164
    Bench - 235
    Squat - 315
    Dead - 425

I know. Weak. Mini 6-8 week cut to get some pre-summer shreds back.

I'm shorter than you by an inch or so and last year I cut down to 160. I was pretty lean but but nobody is impressed with abs on a skinny guy. Same as big tits on a fat chick :cookiemonster:

Your cals and maros look pretty good.

As long as your weight isn’t dropping by more than 2lbs per week you might want to drop a workout day. It might be more of a volume issue than diet.

Where is the guy who was calling us all cock stains for a while? I liked that guy. I feel like, in this case, he would say:

FUCK CUTTING. EAT PUSSY AND LIFT HEAVY!

And, I agree with him, for the most part. I don't understand the whole cut/bulk/recomp thing. As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with @zacharypaul89 in this case. Eat clean and slowly bulk, and you will recomp over time. If you do the 6-8 week bulk/cut, you're going to sacrifice either strength or aesthetics (all hail Zizz), only to find yourself back at the same starting point at the end of the next phase. You're not going to make significant progress either way if you keep changing your goals.

    Hahah fair point.

For sure. Easier to have the energy to crush the extra day with the extra food.

Agreed for sure. But I do think mini cuts/recomps can be helpful if you do like to stay on the leaner side and the "slow bulk" doesn't go as clean as planned.

You're probably right. I just always felt like the pendulum was swinging too far to the other side when I was trying the quick fix approach. Plus, I don't really care about being lean, so my philosophy is probably not applicable.

    False.

Physique competitors cut and bulk (even when they use steroids).

You cannot bulk at the body fat percentages near competing level (for men <5%).
You also cannot gain as much mass as quickly at tiny caloric surpluses.
You’d gain virtually nothing between competitions.

One could get at their ideal body fat percentage and maintain that over time with mass gain but arguably they would sacrifice their numbers.

You will gain strength and mass much faster in a decent caloric surplus.
Cut that surplus down and instead of adding 70lbs to your bench over a year you’ll probably add less than half that (thats why power lifters are fat).

And no one here is talking about a 6-8 WEEK cut or bulk. No one achieves anything in that period of time. Most cut and bulks are more like 4/8 months for a cut and bulk if you are talking about a physique competitor.

    It isn’t changing goals.

My goals are to have great numbers for the average Joe, be healthy, and look good naked.

My cutting methods are less than ideal for a power lifter. Good thing I don’t give a fuck to compete in power lifting :D

Most people are never going to be perfect with bulking so they don’t gain unwanted fat. So therefore they will gain some fat to the point where cutting is more effecient to drop the fat and then bulk to build back up.

I wanted to lose 20lbs. Do you know how long recomping would take for that?
    At least 20 months.
I can cut and start adding to my pre-cut numbers a heck of a lot faster than almost 2 years spinning my wheels.

You say false, but I am not sure where we disagreed.

But one member is talking about a 6-8 week cut, which is why I said what I did.

If you were saying cutting and bulking was ineffective alltogether, thats where we disagree.

If thats not what you were saying... we agree.

I was saying the 6-8 week cut/bulk "crash" style approach is ineffective.

A long term commitment to either losing fat or gaining muscle is what will work best to achieve lasting results.

Me, personally, I don't give a shit about physique or aesthetics, but I don't want to be fat like a power lifter either. Although, most powerlifters aren't that fat, it's only the extremely successful ones that are and get the most shine and therefore give the rest of us that reputation. I want to be as strong as possible while staying at a reasonable bf% so as to stay healthy, but I don't care about abs or biceps or whatever else would get me on the cover of men's health.

Not 6-8 weeks bulk followed by 6-8 weeks cut... that would accomplish nothing. But 6-8 weeks on a caloric deficit can help get your bf% back where you like it.
