I have a 2018 PRO, the sensors do not operate correctly with ice and snow build up.

Same for all, doesn't have anything to do with being Pro. The garnish gets blocked and the radar will not function correctly.

What I am curious about is the calibration of the radar. For everyone that goes from TRD to Pro grille the sensor is lower. If there are any Toyota techs on here, let us know if they should be recalibrated based on the location change.

...so if I buy the 17' grill for my 18' Taco OR and I do nothing to it,no removal of insert,no add of 18' garnish it is possible I will have no errors and still have good protection of the sensor with the solid insert intact? I see the first thread was described this way but are others having the same good results?

Correct, I still haven't changed the garnish out (although I have it sitting on my shelf...) and the only time I receive errors is in heavy snow/sleet conditions, which is the same as it would be in the Garnished-Version. However, the sensor is not completely covered and potentially could be exposed to a rock or something etc. Use your own judgement. I plan to install the Garnish anyway once it's warmer out. I'm sure Toyota did plenty of research before make the change so I would still follow the OEM direction.

:20 minutes and the OEM grill and garnish are in. Gave the dealer a vin off the web. Anyone want an 18’ off-road grill w/ 700 miles?

Looks good. I tried that VIN trick and the dealer cancelled my order because they knew the truck hadn't been sold.

    Which dealer did you use?

We just did our first TRD Pro grill swap on an Off Road and our service department was pretty adamant about having it re-calibrated.

Are people who are doing the swaps in their garages with no calibration having any issues? I cannot see it causing too much of an issue but from a liability standpoint our service drive wanted it done.

The only thing I did to test it was to see how cruise control reacted. It seemed to be the same as with the OR grill. Not very scientific but it worked.

**Places order online at Toyota dealer. Get email following morning**

DLR: "Good morning, thank you for your order. Please provide a VIN."
Me: **sends VIN for a 2018 TRD Pro
DLR: "i'm sorry, but 228-35180 does not fit your vehicle. You're gonna want 228-35170"
Me: "i am certain -80 fits. Please send my original order."
DLR: "Very well, i cancelled your previous order. Please place a new order and I will process."

Ohhh what a shady way to make an extra $200

I think they will sell the -70 because it's more available albeit more expensive. I was told the same thing, no good for the 18 but we'll sell you the more expensive 16/17

Also can anyone confirm that the grille sensor is only for radar cruise and the box behind the rear view is for PCA? or does the grille sensor have to do with both?

Either way my next trip to the dealer I'll have it recalibrated.
