I didnt really realize this until I put them on my truck. These tires while tall are not at all skinny lol, maybe a ko2 in 34x10.5 could be considered the skinny version of similar size.

    Anyone got 34x10.5r17 ko2’s?

I think they’re stupid expensive, but it’s the only decent road tire this size.

I'm trying to figure out if anyone is running 255/80/17 on stock?? Can't seem to find this info anywhere. Would be temporarily on stock until I throw a little level on her. Any inputs??

I have seen and heard that the 3rd Gens can run them. From what I can tell though it seems as if the slight variances in trim packages and manufacturing tolerances make it an individual by individual basis. Put the leveling kit on, then buy the tires. Just my opinion.

I just ordered a set of Dick Cepek Extreme Country in 255/85/16. I got them from 4 Wheel Parts. They were 174.99 a piece. About $20 cheaper than anywhere else I could find with free shipping. There is a $100 mail in rebate if you buy 4 Dick cepek tires. So I scored a whole set for $600 plus tax.

I'm looking at the Falken Wildpeak a/t3 in 245/75r17. There doesn't seem to be much chat in this thread about a 245 width, it's all 235 and 255. Am I missing something? Is anyone running 245s and what's the feedback?

I am running 246/75/16 Mastercraft courser MXT. I have about 40,000 on them and I’ve been rather impressed with them. I don’t wheel all that often but it has always performed in any situation I’ve been in. Mostly ruts and mud. In the snow they feel good and don’t slide around. If you find a tire you want in that size I wouldn’t be afraid to run it.

No problem. I will say that my stock off-road suspension rolls in turns more than I like. Certain turns at highway speeds can feel like they are on the verge of breaking traction. I am also running an E rated tire. I am hoping once the lift is installed in a couple of weeks that the 255/85/16 have a more solid feel in the turns on the road at 55-60

I run 35 front and 33 rear. That has gotten me to 40,000 with even wear. I have to air up every two weeks. I am going to replace valve stem cores when I get my new tires in the next two weeks. Hopefully that will help with the leaking off issue.

I've been looking at the same size for general road use and it seems most manufacturers just make this size in E rated (heavy) - I also noted that Falken has them in P rating and LT. Michelins were my target though.

Well I was considering that, but I think it would probably look goofy sitting on a level kit with stock tires. Plus I was thinking that the tires are more functional than the level. Open to all opinions though

I don't notice the E being too bad on most roads where there aren't breaks or potholes. I also am running stock OR suspension. I imagine when I add the lift in a couple weeks that might change. It all comes down to preference, but if you haven't upgraded your suspension they didn't ride too bad for me.

I wonder if my stock sport suspension might offset the side roll issue that you've experienced. Although I'm looking at a P rated tire and it sounds like the tire you're running has a stiffer carcass being E rated :notsure:

I have always run the SR5 or TRD OR suspension. I cannot compare the sport suspension, but would imagine it would be a little firmer in the turns. They are a stiffer carcass, and I have mastercraft tires that i didn't research at all before putting on, so i don't know that construction. I am happy with the 245s in E, but have decided to join the Skinny guys at 255/85/16 since mine are about shot. I had planned to lift and go with 285, but this thread convinced me to stay skinny and not trim.

I use my truck as a truck and haul pretty much every weekend. For that reason I have pretty much always run a 10 ply or E rated tire. I may be used to the ride and not able to provide an objective opinion. It sounds like you know more about tires than I do though. Establish your criteria for a tire and search until you find it. For me I needed something that was good in snow and rain, but also performed well in clay and mud. A couple guys recommended the extreme country from Cepek, i looked into them and found a good deal that saved me about $250 plus they have a promotion until 5/15/18 for $100 off a set of 4. I went from spending $1000 on Cooper ST MAXX, to spending $600 on Cepeks after rebate. I figured for the $400 I would take the gamble.

I doubt this helped with your questions much, but my experience so far.

Falken just needs to make the Wildpeak a/t3 in 255/75r17 dammit!!! That would solve my dilemma. Ha!

Good luck with the Dick Cepeks, I've read good things about them!

That's the tire that the guy installing my lift recommended. I have 16's and with the price of the build I cannot swing wheels on top. There are really only a few selections available for the 255/85/16. I think in 17 you have more options. Another option for you may be the 265/70/17. You might find more selection and load ranges in that size. I believe they are same width as stock, and an inch taller. I was going that route until i decided on installing a full lift.
