Took the dive on the tune, I just could not stand the randomness and unpredictability of the stock tune. I really want to like this truck but get more disappointed with every mile.

Worth every penny! Especially the 60 additional pennies per gallon to run the 91 tune. I tried going back to 87 - nope!

Accelerating, then deaccelerating, then accelerating at low speeds. Sometimes it’ll stay in 1st. Sometimes it’ll jump to second.

    My merging to the interstate on my normal commute is different every day;

It consist of going from 30 mph to 70mph with an overpass and merging. I still don’t know what the damn truck is going to do. Drop to 4th? Lug around in 5th?

    Fuck I want a tundra.

I couldnt agree with you more. That is exactly how i feel everytime i drive it. On the same drive to work around the same turns it will be in a different gear depending on the day. Sometimes its lugging and sometimes it downshifts

@OVTune , would it be difficult to make a TCU version that gives the S-gears the same shifting parameters as D instead of full lock in all gears? Thanks

Hmmmm..... Trying to decide if I should spend the $780 on this tune. After reading the last couple posts above I'm definitely skeptical now. That's a lot of money to drop and not be 100% satisfied. @ToyoDrew & @ToyoTacoTurner is this the case with you too?

It's well worth the money. Updates to resolve the issues being seen are coming out today and these issues are only reported as very recent too, when you look at how long this tune has been in development with updates being released along the way. It's not fair to only read a couple posts and judge based off of that when there's a relatively small population of OVT users who are not currently satisfied

Especially when there's that reviews only thread full of glowing praise and positive reviews

Very valid point, I'll give you that. I didn't know there was a review only thread either (my bad). @ToyoTacoTurner lives in my area and probably has the same bad traffic and driving conditions so that why I tagged and asked him.

One of the big things that leads to the difficulty in tuning this truck, that Mat has discussed with us before, is the wide range of variance in behavior with the ECUs. On one hand, you've people like myself experiencing zero issues at all. Truck loves the tune, no matter what map I flash. Then you move into the middle of the population where there are some issues, ranging from small or few in number to big issues or large numbers of problems. THEN you continue on to the other end of the spectrum where the truck is nearly impossible to drive. These things are being addressed and Mat has a lot on his plate, which is partially why those of us in the MT thread took it on ourselves to offer and then provide Mat with datalogs to help resolve these issues, since Mat doesn't have access to a 6MT.

Even so, it's a lot of work and these things take time. Patience is necessary and it will pay off in the end.

Some folks trucks have more issues than others. I’d say 90% + of us do not regret. If your after a lot more throttle response, like being able to hit that power band and launch onto the interstate, actually pass at interstate speeds I’d say go for it. If you’ve got a lot of weight on your build you may want to look into a new gear setup first. I had to stop reading so many reviews suck it up and just buy it.. Smiling while driving ever since!!!!

I gotcha..ok thanks for sharing. So as it stands it is still somewhat of a gamble then because mine may or may not be one of the ones that has zero issues and it works out great.

Those who have had an issue, do you know if they have maybe narrowed it down to VIN and country of assembly. I know mine was assembled in the USA and I know that others were assembled in Mexico and maybe other places. I wonder if we did a poll to see if those who did have issues with their trucks and this tune we find a constant variable.

I don't believe that's been tried. You're welcome to give a shot of course.

Don't get me wrong the tune is overall great but when i agreed with dylon on the shifting being inconsistent it's not as if the truck runs like crap. The engine part of the pedal feel is incredible compared to stock. The shifting i noticed just isn't always the same when it downshifts but it doesn't take away from the tune at all as im sure mat will do his magic and figure that out. Like it has been said this is a tune in process and mat needs input like the shifting so he knows what to test on his R&D truck to get to the point of everything running the way it should be. So if you question getting the tune, DON'T because it is a 1000 times better than stock. I'm just trying to give honest feedback so mat has a baseline of what people are seeing as he stated he wanted many many pages ago.

Anyone got an update on how the tune has impacted their 4->3rd downshift? I get a hard downshift periodically, especially in heavier traffic.

    Note** I'm still stock tune.
