    IS ANYONE ALIVE OUT THERE?

The 4Runner is back together and I need to get outside. Has anyone been out? Does anyone want to get out?

This morning my gas gauge did something strange. It usually shows the fuel quantity even with the key out, but this morning it was showing empty, w/ over 3/4 tank. It finally indicated correctly by the time I got to work (about 13 miles). Anyone else have gas gauge issues? Mine's a first-gen.

Nice! How is that Dorman shaft running so far?

I've been meaning to take a CC class. I don't plan on carrying daily, but it would be nice to legally throw my 9 shield in my pocket when dealing with questionable craigslist prospects, among various other situations.

Busy weeks ahead for you, but it sounds like some fun will be had. Lake Powell is awesome.

Hope you're feeling better, Ron. My kiddo has spring break next week, so we're going to do a multi-day camping trip... probably make a trek south somewhere for warmer temps. The mountains to the north will still be a little too cold at night for munchkins to tent camp.

No "issues" to speak of, but between three 3rd gen 4Runners and one Tacoma I have never had a gas gauge that read the same way with the same level in the tank. They all seem to have a mind of their own as to when they show empty. On my '01 the light doesn't go on until you have 2 gallons left in the tank to dry, on my '97 it was 3.5 gallons, and my wife's old '00 would light up with 6 gallons in the tank. The Taco light goes on at about 3 gallons remaining.

Dorman drive shaft is working fine so far. Took care of the vibration completely. The old shaft had an alarming amount of axial play in the front joint. My mechanic grabbed it & moved it up & down a few inches at the front of the shaft. I now know where all the zerks are. I kept the old shaft just in case, though.

Looks good, Nick! Nice aggressive tread. Great day for photos, too; the flat light & overcast sky really works with the colour of your truck.

    Thanks, man!

I'm hoping these tires hook up a little better than the KO2s... maybe I can save myself a CV axle or two. Yesterday was a beautiful day with the clouds swirling on the Sandias... it definitely made it easy to get some cool photos.

The STTs are beef. They will certainly take some getting used to, but so far I have no regrets. At low speeds it feels like you're on a rumble strip, and I can really hear them in corners, but at speed they are only a hair louder than the KO2s. I only have 30 miles or so on them, but will put some significant mileage under them soon.

Tires look great. My mailman, who drives 50,000 miles per year on mostly dirt roads (not technical), loves the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx. He finds they last longer than the KO2s. I know we are all seeking that perfect tire - will we find it though? The roads out here get VERY muddy after rain. Enjoy your new tires!

Are you in the East Mountains? My truck sees mud on FR242 whenever it rains or snows; parts of that can get pretty nasty. I don't live out there, but I play music in Juan Tomas on Fridays. I've still got mud on from the snow up there 3 weeks ago or so.
