...and how can you tell that from the picture? They are hidden under the plastic caps. Maybe your thinking of proximity sensors?

Are the bsm, cross traffic and proximity the same sensor location?

My rear bumper has 4 little circles which are the Sensors, was part of the Premium and Tech Package.

They are under each plastic corner cap on each side and consist of a slave and master. They actually point out the sides and slightly back. Be careful backing up. Striking the corner bumper could be expensive and requires an adjustment procedure using Techstream when changing out a new sensor which can be expensive.

Those have nothing to do with BSM.

Those little black circles is what I was thinking of but apparently that is not correct.

They did an alignment on the sensors and that fixed the bsm error, now I don't know how they would go out of alignment, sounds like it was fixed thru software.

My 17 sport has no proximity warning that I'm aware of.

Misalignment can happen if the bumper gets a banged into. Don't quote me on this but I think if it's out more than 5° it will throw an error code. Yes your right, alignment is done by software adjustment. There is a reflector target that's put in specific location that the sensor reads then calibrated to the target position.

No contact or bumps to the bumper but wondering if it could get out of alignment due to pressure wash, I'll often spray around the bumper to keep the salt and chemical from building in there

I was told that I either had snow on the sensor or it was too cold, both were a total crock of crap for an answer as far as I'm concerned. There was no snow period. It's never been in the snow or on the salt after a snow. I've been driving my Mercedes and Lexus as my wife had a total knee replacement in November and getting in and out of the truck was hard for her to do. The Mercedes and Lexus I can lower, both are on airbags, pretty cool feature to have especially when your getting old.

Dirty sensors, far from it. Cold, I don't consider 30 degrees cold! My Mercedes and Lexus sensors work just fine. I've never had a problem with either of them, except the Tacoma.

I do have the bed step on the drivers side near the rear bumper, which is a Toyota OEM item, not some cut here, measure twice and turn your drawers inside out and prey it fits deal. They told me that it this was not the culprit, that my idiot warning light in the mirror would stay on constantly. (The original complaint is they don't come on in the mirror or the sound when you turned them on, period. The green light on the switch would come on when pushed in and off again when off and no malfunction light either).

This was at my 5K service that this was done.

This truck is an entire disappointment.

I suspect Toyota is BSing people and that they have been inundated with complaints about all kinds of issues. I had them look at the transmission mapping too because of the severity of the downshifting when coming to a stop. I was told that was normal. The first time it happened I honestly thought the guy behind me goosed me. It's happened many times. Since that started. Yesterday I drove to FedEx to drop off a 150 pound create, you would have thought I had a ton of freight in the back of the bed. It pissed and moaned and hunted for the right gear the entire way there.

    To be continued.

BSM does not display a fault in the mirror. If there is a problem detected it displays it on the dash.

As far as the trans problem, there is an update calibration available. Did you have that done?
