Took the tailgate apart to find two huge cracks in it. Measurements taken for angle iron to be cut and welded to the top and bottom to see if I can fix this to a usable tailgate

 

Had a little lunch crunched up nacho chip crumbs and salsa that were left over from nacho night. Love the Mexican food so much when me and pam got married we went to a Mexican resort.

As you can see the new cable is 10” shorter. I called parts monkey no problem to return but they did not have a aftermarket listing for a 2007 crew cab long box drivers side ..... anyone know of one ?

 

Passenger side side axle seal fun. The tension spring in the seal was just hanging out in the axel. The old seal had the lip for the spring worn off. Cleaned up and installed new ABS sensor. Reinstalled and put a new wheel cylinder on the backing plate

 

Update

Drivers side
install new brake shoes
drum
hook up hand brake cable in cab
run hard line from wheel cylinder to flex
install new flex

Passengers side
Clean up parts to be reused
install new brake shoes
remove and install new hand brake cable
run hard line from wheel cylinder to flex
install new flex

Other Drive Train
pinion seal
Change front Diff oil
Change rear end oil

Engine
replace all Idler pulleys and belt
Change spark plugs
Change engine oil and filter

Other
reassemble cab trim parts removed
Install new front Diff seals
Install front lift with new shocks
Install rear extra leaf
install front light bar
back rack chop fit weld
fix tailgate with angle
clean inside cab

DIY How to replace a rear wheel stud.

If you happen to brake a wheel stud they are easy to replace. This applies to almost every automotive wheel stud.

Jack up the truck support with stands.
Remove tire
Remove drum by inserting two bolts into the two treaded holes in the drum and slowly tighten while hitting drum with hammer to brake it free.
Take a punch and knock out broken off stud (see hole in axle flange)
Insert correct tread and length stud into axle flange from backside. They can be found at most auto supply stores. It is a good idea to use some sort of spray lube on stud.
Use a spacer, I used a big nut and washer but anything will do as long as it is bigger then the stud.
Tighten a lug nut to pull the stud into place.
Confirm that it is seated
Reinstall drum, wheel and your done easy !

This is the drivers side hand brake cable. The housing separated from the aluminum plate that bolts onto the backing plate. It was also seized in the backing plate part. Stupid me heated the alum part to try and free it and melted the coating. The bolts were also broken off in it holy F. Ordered ones online waited a week came in wrong ones they do not make them for a crew cab LONG box.


So I carefully drill them out managed to save some thread. Then decided to just drill it out clean and tap it. Also removed the rubber housing from about 1/2” of the cable and jb welded it to the aluminum. Made a jig to hold it while it set.

 

The passenger side cable bolts broke off, I was determined not to remove the whole cable so I clamped it to a I beam and drilled out the broken bolts. Then I tapped them out look at them new threads

 

Cleaned up passenger side brake parts that need to be reused getting excited !!!!!

Went back get a bolt out of the metric bin (homemade wooden box) and I did not have the size I tapped it out for. Then I took a look at the size M7 x1 wtf who in their right mind puts a m7 in a tap set. They are nonexistent no one carries a m7 special order







Then I took a m8 and made it into a m7 I did not like how it turned out got pissed off and went home

 

That’s a kick in the sack...time for a cold one or three!

 

Thought i would put there here so everyone can see it.

I plan on making a boot to protect the lower intermediate steering shaft out of a piece of a dirt bike tube. There are two options mark where the shaft is and take it off the rack slide tube up reinstall, this is the more involved way as you will need to tie the steering wheel, clock spring, possible alignment issues after.

I plan to have a length of tube make cut long ways and punch a few holes in it. Then wrap the shaft without taking the steering shaft off and use zip ties you join it back together. I plan to cut the zip tie and oil the joint every time i change engine oil. This boot will need to be installed do it does not bind or hinder the movement of steering shaft

As for preventing rust i use Fluid Film and i think it is the way to go ! take down your spare tire when you so this for access, also have a few spray cans to spray up into the drainage holes on the bottom of the doors. I SPRAY IT EVERYWHERE !!!! body, doors, frame, control arms, take the plastic off the tailgate and fill it.

Broken wheel studs on the front are more involved then changing the rear ones. I will be doing a write up on how i do it soon when i go at it. I put anti-seize on the shoulder of the lugs the axle flange and the studs. WARNING do this at your risk .... there are people out there who say not to do this as lugs might come lose.

I also have a bottle of anti-seize when ever i take something apart i coat it, same with all the electrical connections use die electric grease
