    1. Here you go OP, I posted this August of 2017. This is my Tacoma. So far, I still like it...a lot.
    2. I swapped out the exhaust and stock intake over to the TRD Catback and TRD CAI on my 17 TRD Off Road two weeks ago. For me the difference was very noticeable and because it was all TRD...all went in and installed seamlessly. I wound up with a nicer throatier than before sound on my Tacoma with much better response. I have not had time to determine any fuel differences as of yet. I considered the the CAI that you (OP) went with, but chose to go with all TRD just to keep it all Toyota for now. I will give my new setup a try for the next several months to see how I really like my final choice....for now though, I am very happy![IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I've got an MBRP exhaust that I'm really happy with it for the money. I've also got the AFE full CAI (with scoop).

Most people don't think intakes do anything. The TRD CAI still uses a flat filter so I tend to think that its really not much different from stock.

I love my exhaust. The crackle between gears is my favorite.

CAI's were great on older vehicles with poor intake designs. They're all but obsolete anymore. Any power gained is from more CFM moving into the intake due to less restrictive air filter. Which also means bigger dirt particles going in too.

    Yeah.
My truck came with the exhaust, so I have no before and after experience, but I like the sound. The TRD CAI looks really cool, and I like the way it bolts right in and looks like it belongs, but I am not a fan of the oiled filters. It's still pulling air from the same place under the fender, although the air path is a bit different. I wouldn't expect any performance gains, but it looks really cool. I would probably use a standard filter myself, though.

If it was me, I would wait until I needed a new exhaust and do the exhaust. I'm a bit meh on the CAI.

I'm running that exact setup complete with scoop. I love that setup. The drone was a bit annoying at first, but I took out the rear seats and dynomatted the entire back wall and under the storage boxes and most of the rear footwells. Reduced drone easily by 30%. Really made a difference. And that MBRP growl is bad ass. Every state/national park I hit I get dudes complementing me on the sound constantly. It doesn't get old!

For OP: And the CAI is hit or miss with a great many people. Don't ever expect to see mpg gains or speed gains. You won't. You could, however, benefit from a CAI/exhaust setup if you tow a lot as you will get a bit more torque throughout the power range. And it sounds way cool.

I may do the same. I plan to do the URD y-pipe eventually too.

It really helps. I got a cheaper version of dynomat on Amazon - worked like a charm. If you do this, don't forget to download a free decibel meter on you phone and do a before and after. Relatively easy project and functional.

If I did more off roading than I actually do I would strongly consider the URD y-pipe. Looks a lot cleaner too. I gotta say that dip down under the transfer case that stock and most other aftermarket exhausts have for the 2016+ isn't very reassuring when you're on very rocky trails!

I keep wanting to get the TRD exhaust and while I know the improvement in sound would be "nice" it's not a buying decision for me. If it sounds a bit throatier and actually does something in terms of power / response that would be worthwhile.... but impossible to find one for less than 600-650 :) If anyone sees some deals post them up!

I love my TRD exhaust. Nice sound, but not obnoxious. I've had it since new because I wanted it, but I have the stock exhaust in my garage just in case I need it someday.

Same here, have the TRD Exhaust, definite improvement over stock. It mellows out and gets deeper as time goes by. Easy install, just try and get that exhaust hanger tool, makes a world of a difference.

Thanks I think Im going to do the TRD Exhaust only. I do not want to mess with the CAI. What do you think?

Yah, some dealers will even off 10% off. No regrets here!

So when I get my truck I originally got it with the regular exhaust and intake. The first thing I did was pull out that carbon filter and felt a tiny difference in throttle response. About eight months after I got the truck I bought a second-hand Magnaflow that was only used for a couple hundred miles. One of my ideas i thought about was why would someone want to selling exhaust so quickly? Well after installing the Magnaflow I'll be honest it was a little bit too loud for me in the droning got to me. I did feel power gains though. I tried to give it a chance for about 3 weeks but just couldn't stand it anymore and removed the Magnaflow. Fortunately I found the TRD Cat-Back system second hand for only $375. The TRD cat back is so much more tolerable. I really love the sound on this exhaust amd the gains about the same as the magnaflow. I later ordered the TRD intake setup pieces from oempartworld when they did their New Year's free shipping deal. Since I already had the TRD air filter that came with the truck I only had to order all the other parts and spent $275. I feel like the truck doesn't just sound better but does get better throttle response and has overall more power. I wanted the TRD intake setup due to being legal since California is pretty strict in its emission standards. I am also running MESO's ECT mod. Would I pay full price for this complete setup? Probably not. But since I got it for a good deal for everything under $700, these were worthy upgrades for me.

Exhaust drone sucks in any vehicle. And each body configuration may or may not have drone.

I read a lot of the aftermarket exhaust systems for these trucks and came to the conclusion that the TRD was the best system overall. I like the one piece, though easy to install, stainless steel, and it's made by Toyota. Might not be the loudest, the growliest, the cheapest.

I had a Magnaflow catback exhaust on my 2nd gen. Loved it at first, got old quick. I enjoy peace and quiet in the cab.
