Predator Steps?

For heavy off road, you want some weld on sliders.

 

Search predator step tube broken. The welds are weak and the steps are prone to getting caught and snagging

 

seen someone off roading with these and the bent cause its really thin the metal by the steps. I ended up buying nfab steps. and way cheaper than predator steps.

 

The one advantage of Predator steps is because they are aluminum, you will not have any issue with rust. Many steps are made from steel, so will eventually have rust issues. This is more of an issue in areas that use road salt in winter.

Most running boards and tube style steps mount to the predrilled mount holes in the Tacoma body. Sliders mount to the frame - either welded or bolted on, and are therefore stronger for offroading. Sliders are generally stronger to begin with. The Predator steps are very light (I have them).

 

I have the predator steps. They were on the truck when I bought it new from the dealer. I don't have a problem with them. They don't get in my way upon entering or exiting the truck, however they are extremely useful for getting my 89 year old grandma in and out of the truck. I'll keep the steps for a while.

There is a new DCLB at my work. It has the predator steps as well, but it has a third step that is under the forward part of the bed. Anyone see these? Forgive me if I missed that browsing this thread.

 

They came with my Pro, I like them, seem very sturdy and well made. I haven't snagged on them yet. Kids use them every time they climb in.

 

I agree with this as well, my Nfab bars on my 2nd generation started rusting after a few years especially where fine scratches occurred.

 

I have the 3" ones. Much better quality than the OEM ones and look better too, IMO.

 

I really like the predator steps. Originally, I had running boards on my truck and they sat so high that I nearly broke my neck trying to get in the truck. As soon as I was out of surgery and able, off came the big running boards and I installed the steps. They are perfect for me and my wife. if I didn't have the steps, I would sell the truck.

I never go off road. In fact, I stay on paved roads. If I ever come to a dirt road, I turn around and go back the other way.

After more than a year, my predator steps look just like new, no nicks, bends or even a scratch.

 

I test drove a used truck with aftermarket predator style steps. It was a 2017 truck and the steps had some signs of rust already.

 

How about the OEM Black oval tube steps?

 

What % tint do you have on your truck? I need to get mine done and I really like the look of yours.

 

I liked my predetor steps, before going off road. If you're gonna wheel, just get sliders. Had to weld the front step back together after it pulled apart cresting a hill...

 

OEM Toyota Predator steps are aluminum, so will not rust like aftermarket steel ones.

 

If anyone reading this is interested, I have some for sale. They get in the way offroading and I've hit my shins 1 too many times. At 6'1" I don't need them.

How much are you looking to sell them for? Will they fit my 2016 double cab?

 

I have a set on my 2017 long bed double cab with less than 4,800 miles on them and like new. $300 picked up in Chambersburg PA. I like the way they look but they make it harder for me to get in/out of the truck than w/o them.

 

I have them on 2018 Sport. They came from the dealer installed, but I would have bought a set if they hadn't. I had them on my 2012 as well and like the looks and functionality. I do not do off roading for the sake of off roading but do use the truck for fishing and hunting etc which many times involves a dirt road and/or a short drive across a field and such. I guess the dedicated off road folks have a legitimate grip with the OEM predator steps. I can see where they would catch on things and bend or break due to the somewhat lightweight aluminum construction. All depends on how you're going to use your truck.
