I'm hooking up a HU which requires I tap a light green wire into the "power supply side" of the parking brake switch. Laying on my back looking up at the parking brake mechanism, I can see a single green/yellow wire coming out of the a plunger/switch. The plunger is on the passenger side of the parking brake. Is this the correct wire I need to tap into? The diagram that came with my HU shows the brake switch with one wire running into the switch from the power supply side and another running to ground. I can only see one wire, but it is very tight under there and can't be too sure. I don't know if the year is important, but my Tacoma is a 2012. I've had it for two weeks and the interior has been torn out for one. A full sound deading / sound system upgrade is underway and if I don't get it back together soon, my wife is going to kill me.

Incidentally, I've read about several ways to bipass the parking brake, but my HU is apparently quite difficult to defeat. It is a Pioneer AVH-4400BH and even if you use a relay (as I am) you still need to tap into the parking break wire.

If u bypass it u won't have to get the parking brake wire of the taco just run the lighter green (parking brake) of the pioneer to pin 30 of relay and on pin 85 and pin 87 run to ground and pin 86 run to remote wire (blue/white) of pioneer pin 87a middle of relay not used

Done and Done... I actually purchased a little relay build specifically for this purpose and didn't realize until now that I didn't need to tap into the parking brake wire anymore. Even if I didn't care about the bypass, this is an easier install.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AVH-PIONEER...270?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c23d0cec6

Now if I could just find where to tie into the reverse gear input signal. I guess it is the same thing as the tail lights whereever that is...

OK, I think I can answer my own question. I'm 95% sure the green/yellow wire is correct. In the 2012, there is a piece of loose tubing that covers the wire, but it slides up and down a bit. In order clip a splice onto the wire, it may be necessary to cut back some of the tubing, but it looks possible with some care and a small utility knife.

That said, I'd recommend using one of the $10 bypass relays available on ebay rather than taping into the parking brake wire.

That eBay bypass you mentioned, did you end up using that? I ordered the same one for my new HU. Worked just as they say and was extremely easy to install.

That is the plan, but I'm still at the point of putting in raammat, ensolite and MLV. The truck is two weeks old and I have the interior completely out.

Any resolution to this? I have a Pioneer that I bypassed, but it's wired into the radio's remote wire. Therefore, when the radio is off, it is not bypassing the parking brake wire. The problem here is that to use the microphone I bought to calibrate and time adjust my speakers via the Pioneer HU, the radio has to be off and the parking brake has to be on. My bypass configuration doesn't work for this operation. So I need to run it to the brake for the sole purpose of tuning my speakers. I suppose I could go the switch route, but I think for this purpose just going the way it was meant would be the best bet. Then I don't have a permanently installed switch that I'll use once.

I always rig the parking brake wire to the yellow illumination wire. So you can cycle it with simple headlight triggering. Easy and works everytime, you just cant access the advanced functions when the lights are on (thinks brake is off)

Ive got a Pioneer AVH291BT and all i did was take the green Parking Break wire, wire in a simple 2 post On/Off switch, and atttach to chassis Ground. Piiece of cake and only cost me a cheap switch. Thats all there is to it

So a little irritated with this whole mess. Just for S&G I just stripped the end of the wire and held it against a screw in the firewall with the radio off (powered up, but set to “off”). Everything works when I touch to the screw. Started the car with it touching said screw. All features worked. So it seems like the bypass I got was completely unnecessary. I didn’t need to cycle it on-off-on. I’m just going to ground it out. Wish I hadnt just spent $10 on a sweet zombie light switch to put in one of the blanks on the left side...oh well maybe I’ll just have to get some actual zombie lights lol.

With the newer pioneers, you can permanently ground it and access all functions EXCEPT playing a dvd. Displaying video is the one thing that requires the brake-off-brake process.

any simple micro-bypass will do this function and is very easy to hook up. Or as others have mentioned, a basic single pole switch.

Hey thanks for the tip. I so rarely pop a dvd in that I never would have noticed this. I have dual methods of bypass now. I have a switch that I can use to ground it out for auto eq or to use the dial pad when I have the radio off (rarely). Or I can open the switch and let my bypass do the on-off-on thing while the radio is on. Only DVDs I typically play are concert DVDs I use for music.
