Okay, I might be exaggerating a little... I rarely ever haul loam, but definitely mulch and compost. A yard of mulch is 800lbs and compost is around 1500lbs, but I may only drive 5 miles or so from the nursery to the jobsite.

Sounds like you'll need some springs soon too. Haha

Tough call. Not sure if needed or not.

Me, I'd just run P rated with a bit more air pressure.

I just read that the Yokohama Geolander load is "111"- this means it can handle 2400lbs

E rated tires are going to be rough as hell on a Tacoma.

    Most definitely.

If you are not getting many punctures, the E rated are over kill. E rated have a higher puncture resistance.

You need a trailer. I look at my Kubota and what it can lift and then a full bucket of spent mushroom compost which it can’t. Any soil can far exceed your expected weight depending on moisture. You can beat the crap out of your truck or the same to the trailer. The trailer will take the abuse and can be replaced / repaired cheaper than the truck.

Distance to jobsite is irrelevant. You get into an accident and are deemed to be overloaded you will have no excuses. Around here the police just started carrying mobile scales to test any vehicle and ticket or tow anyone in non-compliance. They simply go off the info on the door jamb / registration and that is the law unless you can provide information to the contrary. My old truck was bought by a redneck with a YouTube channel. I watched as he got pinched for exactly this. Truck / trailer / load were in excess of GVWR. They ticketed him and towed his trailer and load. He then paid towing, storage / impound etc. I think he got hit for over $2000 when all was sorted.

Yeah, I hear you about the trailer. My truck does actually have a towing package for hauling... I am only usually hauling 800-1500lbs in compost or mulch, not loam, which is within the specs for payload.

Hi Alex... thanks for the welcome :) I plan on spoiling my truck this spring and having it professionally detailed, inside and out.

I rarely ever put a heavy load in any of my trucks. I let my trailers take the abuse. Yes it is a pain to hook up or store a trailer. But it is a better investment than destroying one truck after another. Plus if you add brakes to the trailer or possibly a dump it can be so versatile.

Most people hesitate to spend money when they can use what they have. Problem is many people overload or over stress their equipment and then throw their hands in the air confused at what just happened. Since you are taking loads fairly regularly I would assume a trailer would be a great investment and extend the life of your truck many years.
