Pro Comp Nitro 3" leveling kit + 285/75R16 BFG AT KO2
    Dear Firends,

I just installed a leveling kit (Pro Comp Nitro 3") and BFG AT tires 285/75r16... truck looks awsome!

The issue, tires are rubbing against the UCA in full lock and, even worst, I am now having a very bothersome vibration when driving - all the time.

I am thinking of changing the OEM wheels for new ones with more backspace and 0 offseet (trying to keep tires flush) to fix the rubbing. Although, am disapointed to se the OEM wheels go. Thought about wheel spacers but dont really like them and havent heard anything posityive about them other easy chaep fix with a lot of downside in the long term. Any suggestions in wheels and what to look for are very much appreciated!

In terms of ths vibration, no clues here... started as I drove in the highway the very same day I drove the truck out of the 4WP shop... Now it vibrates at all speeds... All I can think of, did the angle on the driveshaft change that much to cause this vibration? no clue other than this on what could be causing this...

    Thanks to all!

    Tony

Did you put the 285's on Toyota Stock Wheels? If so that's one problem. Did you get it aligned afterwards, if not that will be a fix as well. Vibrations could be the Needle Bearing that you generally get once lifted. Or crappy 4WP that I wouldn't let my worst enemy go to, probably did a shit job balancing.

Hi my friend! thanks much for your quick reply! Yes the 285 are on stock 16' wheels. I was told at 4WP they'd aligned the truck after the mod...

Quick (most likely dumb) question, if the balancing is the issue would the vibration occur at all speeds?

    THANKS again for you input!

You can either do wheel spacers so you can keep the OEM Wheels or a different offset with aftermarket. As far as balancing if it is a shit job it will vibrate at the higher speeds as well. So get some spacers, get it aligned and work from there.

like posted before, get tire balance redone, alignment rechecked, and see what happens. if it still occurs, search "ecgs". drive truck in 4wd and see if it eliminates the vibrations and you'll know you need the ECGS mod if 4wd removes vibes.

    Sounds good will do!

Does anyone know if the trd pro wheels have more backspace than the TRD off road OEM wheels?

Any Toyota OEM Wheel with a 285 on it will rub

and honestly wheel spacers aren't that bad. you could go with the 1.25" and it would give you a slightly more aggressive stance and that issue would be fixed for $200 bucks. unless your doing serious offroading, I wouldn't be scared of spacers if you want to keep the factory wheels. my opinion though.

Sounds good! Not wanting to spend much on this! Any suggestions on spacers? is there a preferred one?

spidertraxx seems to be the popular choice on tw. 99 bux a pair.

looks like a new trip to 4WP for re-alignment, re-balancing + spidertraxx 1.25" spacers for a first attempt to solve the issue..

BTW, added a profile pic to show the 285/75 on the OEM wheels!

Okay they are OEM wheels, not OME as that is a suspension brand. Get an alignment print out as well, and you might need new aftermarket UCA's

Bora is also a reputable brand, and they offer 0.75” and 1” spacers. You want the smallest spacer possible that will eliminate rubbing of the UCA. I say this because if you go too big on the spacer, you’ll start rubbing your firewall and have more cutting to do.

The vibration is from a bushing in the front differential. It's known to vibrate even with a small lift

Yes; Tacoma Pro wheels have a 4.5" backspace.
People do 285s with a 4.5" backspace all the time.

If you want to fix it on the cheap, I'd suggest 3/4" Bora spacers. This will essentially give you a backspace of 4.25"
1.25" spacers are more likely to cause cab mount clearance issues.

    Hi all!

Just a quick update! (not happy at all with 4WP). Had to go with the wheel spacers to keep the OEM wheels or else I was looking at some expensive and not very nice wheels. They did re-balance the truck and the vibration got a lot better but.... it's back again... no idea what is going on - also they put 52psi on the wheels! I'd never seen this before.... my understanding is I would wear out the center of the tire and and and.... Also, they installed the G2s and not the spidertraxx spacers (have not heard any bad reviews about the G2s but, keep in mind one is made in the US and the G2s are made in china...)

These are the 1.25" inch spacers - they don't sell 1" or 3/4"spacers, fortunately no cab mount clearance issues (that I know of). Just FYI samller spacer would require triming of the OEM studs which I didn't anyways

All this means I'll be going back to 4WP for the 4th time to get it re balanced, again... and planning on taking down the preassure to 34 - 36?

    Thanks all!

try a carrier bearing drop kit. if everything else checks out that could be your issue. or it could be your needle bearing. did you say you tried it in 4wd? and did it go away?

ask if the spacers are hub centric or lug centric. Hub centric means it fits perfectly over our hubs, so it’s nice and centered. I’d lug centric, it can be off centered by a tiny bit causing vibrations. That’s why I recommended spidertrax or bora because I know those ones are hub centric

what's really killing ya here is all the variables of what could be causing the vibes. that's why it's best to do something at a time so if a vibe occurs you know what caused it. so basically your looking at wheels/tires, spacers, driveshaft, or needle bearing for possible causes. if it goes away in 4wd, you have a pretty good idea that it's your needle bearing. if not. install a diff drop kit for 20 bucks and see if it eliminates or changes the vibration. if your still getting them, your down to most likely being wheel/tire related or spacer related if not hub centric

also, does the vibration go away when you let off the throttle?
