@mesojdm as B.A. as your truck is, and now with gears to boot....did you go front locker too? I mean at that point don’t you have to be “close” to done????

No front locker yet. I'm not on that level yet..
Everywhere I have gone(off road)the e-locker has worked for me. Gears were a stepping stone to get me ready for 37's. Then I'll just need some boost to make up for the extra weight:curls:

@mesojdm let me know what your mileage does. I've had the OVtune on 91 but when I installed my gears I went down to the 87 tune in anticipation that the gears were going to give me some new found power and figured I wanted to see how much mileage I could gain with 4.88s and an 87 tune. Sorely dissapointed. I lost 1.5mpg. I'm now down to 14.7mpgs.

Will do. I avg about 15.5 in town(before gears). No plans on switching to 87(yet) I love the power from the 91 map. Even if it's a few bucks more per tank.

With the tune and gears if you can keep it 65 and under you can get anywhere from 17-20 MPG's. I just drove into work cruise control set at 63 and got 20.6 MPG's ! Anything over 65 MPG's drop dramatically. Did a trip from Socal to Sedona Az and got 17.3 doing 75mph. And it drove awesome! I am running 285/70/17's ,steal armor skids, winch bumper,Bamf expo rack, RTT was not mounted for this trip.

Ya. I was getting 16.8 with stock gears and 32s on 1.02c (91)then dropped to 15.5 when 1.03 (91 tune) came out. When I installed the gears I expected to gain back a few MPGs and since I didn't REM the gears I figured I'd go with 1.03 87 tune so I wouldn't be tempted to floor it during the break in period and since I still got the 32s on it'd be peppy enough on 87. Expected that to give me even better MPGs plus babying it around would be help out too. All that combined netted me 14.5 MPGs. Now I'm questioning if something is wrong or what. I honestly expected to be up to 17MPGs with everything. I'm afraid to go to 35s now cause I may drop to 13 MPGs at that point.

WELL... I just kicked it into 4-hi on the way to work to make sure everything was good. I hear a LOUD whine on DECELERATION only. from 30mph all the way to 0. Not very happy. Called the gear shop and they told me to call Nitro. I can see the circle jerk starting now....
The install shop is telling me "some noise is common" ..and I was fully prepared for that. But I can feel it THROUGH the floorboard and it sounds like a siren from the outside. FML...

Fuuuuuuuck, that sucks and is definitely not "common". Sounds like they set the gears too tight.

so the nose is only when you are in 4x4 high? maybe give it some additional break in time. I ran mine 500 miles (no speed over 55mph) w/o engaging 4x4. No unordinary noise. After 500 miles no unordinary noise 4x4 or standard. Having the T-SB0013-18 done (pre regear diagnosis), but that even toned down after changing fluids. nope it works out

He did REM polishing so there really isn't any break in time, that's one of the benefits of it. He definitely should not have that noise at all.

I don't have any from my nitro gears but I had ECGS set mine up using there exchange program. If you do call Nitro tell them that it's only when you are slowing down they will most likely tell you what the shop you used needs to do to correct it. This is the reason I had ECGS do the work and ship them to me then just swapped them out and ship them back the cores. Not to mention they do the axle and pinion bushing upgrade. Good luck but I think your shop is going to have to set one or both of the differentials up again.

yep. missed the REM part. ugh. bummer. would think the shop would diagnose and open caskets first before having him deal with Nitro.

All the Jeeps I changed gears in( A shop did the change, not me),It was never the same as stock. Some were better than others. You should buy the gears from the shop who does the install to avoid the circle jerk. Not to say You can get lucky and have no issues if you buy separate. The shop should take a look though, not call the gear co.

I want to do this regear so bad but no one can quote me a decent price for labor. Parts is 1300... I’ll probably do the lock just because it’s already opened so add another 900. These shops in houston said 3k for labor and a week itll be done. I might as well drive to las vegas and have rogue offroad do my regear for 1200 labor and he has good pricing on gears anyways

SDHQ in AZ is between you and Vegas ;) and they've done a bunch of re-gears on Toyota's and truly know what they are doing. Plus they have the gears in stock..... The only problem, being there will make you want to spend more money..

Good input. I like their company just never knew they did that. Ill give them a shout. I wonder whats the general labor prices people are paying to have it installed? Not including parts

I honestly couln't tell you but @hellppy just had his gears done there so he may have better insight. I know of at least a dozen or so installs they have done on Tacoma's specifically. They labor is definitely top notch and second to none. Truly a premier shop for sure.

Yeah I should have just got the gears through the shop so no BS if anything went wrong. But they didn't offer REM, so I supplied my own. But really, they would be purchasing the same Nitro's directly through the Manuf. like I did. UGGG
Here's a video I tired to catch it on my phone but that noise is not my tires...
