I do... Constantly. not my daily driver. only purpose is to drive for fun so yeah, I beat the hell outta it. A used rental car would be a safer purchase option than this truck.

Also, whats 1-2 mpg in dollars at the end of the day. Nothing. Smaller tire-> Faster tread wear. He'll probably end up in the red

Since I am ignorant on the topic in general Ill ask.

How / Why is more heat created during the break-in period then after the break-in period?

Maybe answering my own question but does it have to do with the ring and pinion essentially lapping each other so they finish creating a solid matting surface?

If so then I get it why they would create more heat during the break-in period and why there may/should be metal shavings in the oil after the break-in period.

    The gears are "setting" .

lot of friction going on until they wear into their sweet spot.

Should feel the diff with new gears. It gets really hot.

So yes they are lapping each other into the sweet spot.

    Makes sense.

I have read on here that you can get the gears with a special treatment /coating and there is no break in period for them. Maybe that's what the manufactures use.

I hope you drive that thing like you stole it instead of doing 20 mph in a 30 or 35 mph zone, because you save gas.
