I think it is double sheared otherwise it would be a bootless ball joint. If you zoom in at the ball look at where the stud begins. The way it tapers off doesn't say ball joint to me. But your right since it's really not been heard of by many and that it's made by someone and not a company.

    I've never seen a LBJ stud sheer..ever.

Its the 4 little bolts that are your biggest worry.

Followed by the Ball joint itself blowing out of the cup.

But the stud is huge, I don't think that would be a point of failure..and it it was, its very likely you ran into something and the frame is gonna be totaled anyways.

    Id run that honestly.

That said, the only double shear uniball I know if is by Solo for their 4x4 XLT kit. I think ESB makes a race kit that is for 2wd that might be doubt shear too.

    upload_2018-3-29_9-47-34.jpg

Im going to run these though with their fabbed spindle and heim steering

    upload_2018-3-29_9-48-41.jpg

Still 4 little bolts to hold them on. But at least loosing the ball from the cup is less likely.

No matter what. its a poor design. The XLT kit is the only way to totally get rid of it.

    no its not.

Double shear means the uniball is sandwiched between steel on both sides. That one and the solo uniball upgrade have nothing bracing the top of the uniball.

    Single Shear:

Exactly my point, but I see standard bolts shear all the time, and putting a standard bolt in a single shear position like that sounds scary to me. Solo or whoever can be as good as they want but all your trust is in whoever made that bolt. And like you said sometimes its the smaller 4 bolts, I have heard some people say they issue with cheap ball joints is the mating surface is not perfectly flat and causes issues with those 4 bolts. I'm not knocking Solo or whoever made that uniball lower adapter but I would trust Toyota with a perfect mating surface over just about anyone else. But with that said make it double shear and ditch that crappy design as you mentioned and now I'll trust Solo or ESB etc more than the OEM ball joint

Only comes with the XLT kit which is +4.5'' per side. Wide as fuck.

Capable of 17'' of wheel travel though..with a 10'' shock..which is a custom thing..might as well cage the engine for that..so might as well cage the truck..while you're doing that might was well 4 link the back..

    That got expensive fast.

that is true. But I'd always try and use high quality Grade 8 bolts. A grade 8 bolt is one strong ass bolt. I would't be worried with one of those holding things sheering

Sadly no way to make it double shear..not easily and even harder with 4wd. Wish they made their double shear spindle available with their 3.5'' kit. be in heaven then.

Not only that that's with the v6 engine. I'm either going have to do some real custom work to have all the clearance with the 4.7L in the truck. So might as well go with camburg or solo's 3.5" kit as well. Which I'll probably be doing exactly the same as you. I'm going to need stronger coils once the V8 is in lol

Also I think the XLT kit is a bit to much for my needs unless I'm going to be jumping the truck to ridiculous measures or racing it.

Yep. Finally, wasn't too difficult, most of my time was spent cleaning and figuring out exactly what wouldn't swap over.

I was about to say... here's how mine looked like.

I should add the truck has never seen a dirt road before in its whole life, so that could be another thing.

    DSCN0967.jpg

    DSCN0966.jpg

I did my rear main seal during my 4WD swap - wasn't leaking or anything I just thought might as well since it's right there. If you need a seal driver, go to Home Depot and buy a 2" pipe flange made for toilets, seriously. It was like $1.50

    DSCN0980.jpg

That shaft type seal puller is completely useless, I could never get a firm grip on the seal and I just ended up using a prybar and marring the hell out of the original seal to get it out. I tried the screw method but that just made it even worse.

If you don't have the time to order OEM ones, NAPA is supposed to carry pretty good qualtiy CVs from what I hear

I'm going to pick up one today for my Mojave trip this weekend, unfortunately the NAPA near me didn't have any in stock so I'm going to have to drive a bit further. AutoZone has theirs in stock but I don't trust them...maybe as an emergency spare but I don't hear good things about them

I hear bad things out of them (Duracrap) haha, mine clicks under load while wheeling and sometimes just when articulating without load. Just waiting for it to blow apart, I've got piles of OEM spares waiting to take it's space.
