Diff Oil TRD Off Road 4x4

Hey all! Going to be changing my diff fluids soon. I already got the replacement O rings for the plugs. I figured I might as well change them. I'm thinking of running this in all 3 compartments (Front/Transfer case and Rear Diff)

Has anyone used this product and have any insight to offer? I have always liked Mobil products and the price on this seems right in line. Thanks in advance!

Looks like that should work great! Does not have the LS additive but that is not necessary in your TRD OR.

1.6 quarts for the front, 1.4 quarts for tcase, and 3 for the rear. You are gonna need 2 1gallon jugs ~$100

You can buy 6 quarts of Mobil 1 75w-90 for ~56 bucks if you buy from pepboys ebay store (free shipping over 35 bucks)

Thanks for the quick reply. Damn I thought it was closer to 5 quarts total. Maybe buying 6 quarts is the way to go. Plus, with the 1 quart bottles, I don't need to buy a pump to fill the diffs.

 

The rear diff you can get away with not needing the pump (just drop the spare to make some room)

Tcase might be dooable but its easier with the pump.... front diff.... good luck without a pump.

 

Ok so sounds like a pump is a good investment. I have one for my boat's lower unit but I didn't want to mix gear oils. I'll just get another one too. Would it be bad to run LS fluid in the OR diffs? I see that link for Pep Boys is the LS mixture.

 

No harm with the LS fluid.... i run that exact stuff in my front diff, tcase and rear diff. works grea, no issues.

And if you have a pump, just rinse it out with some degreaser and water, then dry it out with an air compressor.

 

Perfect. Thanks! Been needing to do this for some time. 2nd owner truck, 77k. The fluids were changed at 35k (so I was told) and I bought the truck with around 55k. Did you notice any difference in ride/feel with fresh fluids?

 

Get a good pump it will make your life much easier. I used a cheap one from HF the first time I did mine and it was a hassle. Last week I did it again and used this pump that I also used to do a transmission flush.

The hand ones arent bad for the quart n a half you have to use em for.


For the 13 quarts in a transmission dont even bother with a pump, do what i did, 10 ft of 3/8ths vinyl tubing at home depo for 3 bucks and make your own "dipstick tube" from the engine bay down to the trans and simply pour quarts in. worked so easy.

 

My brother runs it in his '02 4runner and has had zero issues! I put valvoline in mine '05 taco.

 

The hand pumps are no match for the drill pump. I used 6’of hose to the bucket so I didn’t have to move it. Then 18” of hose from the drill pump. All I had to do was stick the hose in the hole and press the trigger on the drill for 5-10 seconds.

You have an off-road why not use the trans cooler lines at the radiator? I used them for the flush at 50k and every 30k I pump out about 3 quarts add 3.5 quarts and do the temp check procedure.

 

I did use trans lines to pump fluid out, but you have to fill the pan back up from the fill port on the top side of the trans. I also did a full fluid change of 13 quarts, not just a drain of the pan and fill.

 

I did the flush with 13 quarts also. I filled a bucket with the 13 quarts of fluid, then I cracked open the fillport, to relieve any pressure, then I let the truck pump out 13 quarts of fluid while using the drill pump to pump in the new fluid. After I started the truck and shifted through the gears and drove less than a mile. Then I went back and added more fluid and did the temp check procedure. The fluid that came out was the new fluid. I never pumped any fluid into the pan because I didn’t drop it.

Every 30k-50k miles I do the same procedure but with 3 quarts of fluid.

Next time I exchange 3 quarts of fluid I am going to drop the pan and clean the screen. It does make sense to fill the pan at the fill port after this procedure. I also wonder if you can just pump 3 quarts into the pan from the trans cooler lines?

Does this method work or am I missing something?
