Garage Floor Epoxy

For those of you that garage your Taco and have your floor coated, what epoxy did you use? Was looking at the Rustoleum epoxy but I would like something that lasts and won’t flake up. Any suggestions?

 

I Just had my garage floor jacked out and re-poured. I'm in the same arena as you OP. I'd hate to have to do it twice. From what I've researched, the 2-part systems are the ones that wont flake up. I'd like to know if there is an easier one part system that has shown to work as well.

 

I am also not opposed to having it professionally done but would like some ideas of what a reasonable cost would be.

 

I got the stuff from Home Depot. I think it's rustoleum. Been holding up for ten years.

Exactly what I have. I added about half a bag of the friction dust (sold separately) as well.
I work on dirt bikes in the garage, oil and fluids clean up great!

 

I did it in my old house, it was great for the two years I lived there and assume it still is. I ordered a version they sell at Home Depot, but from the actual website of the company. It was more expensive and a more heavy duty than they sold at HD, but it also cost more. I can't remember the brand and a quick google isn't finding it for me. I think the prep is the key, you have to make sure you scuff up or acid etch your concrete well first. I actually posted a wanted ad on CL and found someone willing to do it for the same price I was going to rent the floor sander and pad for. They did a pretty good job, but I am sure someone who cost full price would have been better.

 

Did either of you use a pressure washer to clean the floor?

 

If you are hitting it with a big sander that will clean the dirt as it pretty much will take a tiny bit of the top layer off.I am not sure with the acid etching route, I would think in that case you would want to wash it, not sure if before or after though.

 

I used a degreaser and pressure washed. Those big floor squeegees help alot

 

If I can jump in, OP. Do you guys find the flakes make it hard to spot dropped bolts/nuts/washers/etc? I'm having a pro coat mine here shortly and am wanting something with good contrast for the aforementioned reason of spotting dropped items.

 

I never found it too much of an issue, I had a blue floor with grey flecks. I would say if you are concerned, use colors that bolts never are. Most are silver/bronze (reg steel/brass colors) or black powder coated. I think with a "bold" base color of a red, lighter blue, yellow etc... would make anything dropped pretty easy to spot. If you do a black/grey floor and grey flecks on the other hand, you might lose sight of everything once you drop it if you don't have good lighting.
