What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

$77 Fabtech Fts205 1-1/2" Add-A-Leaf Kit for Toyota Tacoma

Fabtech Fts205 is what it is I havnt measured or driven the truck yet, by it lookes to be more then 1.5 inches I have 5100 set at the top setting and the front was noticeable higher. So far with the aal the rear is noticeably higher, but I'm hoping that after few miles it will settle down and be about level

 

Meth

 

Certainly the cheapest option to fix it on a boosted application. Although I find a lot of people don't even assemble meth kits correctly and use too weak of a pump (windshield sprayer), takes much more pressure to completely atomize it. Gets more expensive with the right pump and well placed nozzles.

When faced with this problem I'm hoping to fix it all without meth, kind of a bandaid in my opinion. Proper fuel mapping is the permanent fix. On that note it would be very cool if someone made a aftermarket ECU map just to fix the V6 pinging, darn locked down ECUs make that just a dream

 

I had larger injectors and a Snow Performance progressive methanol injection.

 

I could mot get my laptop to communicate with my piggyback.

 

Anyone else have a Tacoma without a map light? I'd like to add one but not sure its worth the trouble. Mine's a base model 95 4 cylinder.

 

Mine didn't have one, and on my green truck I added one. I decided against it this time because it really wasn't all the useful to me.

 

Wire it to the dome light circuit? Up here in the winter its dark as so just trying to help with that. I might just find a bright LED bulb for the dome light and call it a day.

 

Yeah I had it wired into the done light, so I could have it work off the door open switch and with individual switches built into the lamp. But I already had a huge 8x8 led array in the done light so I barely noticed the map lights.

 

I'm gonna try the 7th injector and add meth. Been done w/ pretty good results by some t4r guys. I like the cooling properties.

 

I hope the 7th alone handles the ping for you. The 7th has the added effect of cooling both the SC and the air charge which is neat.

I cannot remember but I think that is the same conclusion Gadget came to way back in the day when the SC was the newest toy on the market. Kinda a bummer though because it basically requires a timing controller, probably why the FIC6 is always the next mod.

It comes with the 7th kit.

Just took apart my hvac over the last couple days - look what I found:



I'm not sure if it's just my truck, but Toyota missed a good idea by not putting a cabin air filter in the HVAC. I got to this by just doing some general cleaning since I was tracing wires from the cruise control that I wanted to uninstall. It seems likely this stuff is restricting airflow. It sits right where the fan blows into.

To get to this point I already had the main dash panel off and removed the blower motor housing. It might be possible to do even with the main dash in the truck.



I also redid the weak foam seals with this stuff. It's advertised as holding up to extreme cold no problem; I hope it can handle heat...



It fit the seams well width wise and made a much tighter seal.



The foam in the blend door was falling apart so I hosed it off. I started to cut out some new foam to coat it, but it sealed pretty tightly and since I live in sunny Southern California I don't have to worry about a lot of cold air getting in when I don't want it to and I almost never use AC...

I washed the blower motor with a powerful spray bottle and piping hot water making it rotate like a water wheel while I held a big tray under it. Came out pretty clean. I anticipate some better airflow and hopefully quieter operation.

to this. The red and green ovals mark a connector and a brass colored bracket that I removed when re-installing the blower housing. If I did it again I'd remove them before removing it to make it way easier to get out. The plastic that holds the connecter had a plastic plug that goes into the sheet metal that wouldn't come out without too much of a fight so I cut it with a razor knife so there was still a hole in it I could zip tie it through to the sheet metal...

 

Nice work, I did the same with the frost king seals so we'll see how it goes.

Drove the truck around tonight. The GS leaf springs I got from Wju did the trick on this issue with my rear bouncing around after hitting a bump, it no longer wanders and corrects afterwards. I used the diff oil that was recommended, even though it was a different from the recommended toyota type, and it feels good. Some shifting issues seem to have been fixed as well but thats at low rpm shifting. Ahhhh....

 

What trans do you have?

 

Waiting on my mechanic to call me back about installing all these parts. And this is my thinking.
