You do. I took ones that broke recently in and now have 2 spares to my OEM ones in the rig now. Good for back-ups until you get the OEM fixed IMO.

Yeah I think that's the only reason anyone bothers with them, although I guess if someone's not wheeling and just using their truck as a daily that might see 4wd a few times a year, those CVs would be fine. But I wouldn't wheel hard on those CVs with much confidence,

Unless you have a constant drain on your battery when the truck is off I don't see the point for 2 batteries. They are rather heavy and I just don't see the point. Get an upgraded alternator if you want extra charging power.

If you have a fridge and other accessories that you use a lot when the truck is off it is very nice to have.

Even running a winch and lights etc? I'm going to have to come up with a custom setup here pretty soon and had been planning on doing the solar / accessory stuff on one and the engine on the other. I was trying to figure out which one to hook the winch to. Not my closest project so I haven't looked into it much - interested in info as it comes though.

heck I blew an OEM CV when I wasn't even wheeling (icy road) so I don't even have a lot of faith in those right now, let alone anything from AutoZone

The wench and additional lighting(high powered LED) is more than enough justification for me.

Today I'm at a auto detailer getting my Truck a full detail including the engine and also having a 2yr Teflon application put on

Which would be a constant drain on the battery, so agreed it is worth it in your case. For a weekend wheeler, not in my opinion.

Winch should go to the battery connected to the alternator. Unless you plan on leaving LED lights on for long periods of time without the truck running I don't see the point.

cheap option is the classic CS144 GM upgrade. I've had mine in Frank for a while now. 140amp alternator.

But there are lots of other options out there. Depending on your budget and pocket depth.

Just something better then stock. Not looking to get out of hand with that. Plus duals is more of a bragging rights thing but to be honest I wouldn’t mind running only one battery. Saves room in the bed cage and gives me space for the charcoal canister next to the battery behind the fuel cell. I’m not planing on running shit without the truck running. I guess I can run a single 2150 battery with a better alternator and be fine. Thoughts?
