After Market Dip Stick?

    Having issues reading the damn DS. Searched. Read some threads. Sanded it down (no luck) ....is there an aftermarket product to purchase ?

    After your next oil change, use a small center punch and make an indentation on the metal at the high mark.

    okay...sorry for the confusion...i can clearly see where the full line is.....the oil just does not sit on the stick right. Everytime i pull it out, there is just a long thin line of oil that runs all the way up the dip stick on 1 half of it. ahhhh

    Hey I'm with ya TOYOTA 09, that dip stick is like none other I've ever come across. It's hard to read... there's a little oil here, some up the side, some on the other side!?!

    I agree the dipstick is a little tricky to read. I have scuffed mine up and it seems to "hold" a little better. I usually do it a couple times to check it and make sure the engine has sat for a while. If I get the half line consistently at the same "fill or full" line I am content. I have never owned a toyota before so I have no comparison if this is normal, but on all my Chevy's and GMC's it was pretty clear where the oil level was.

    Doesn't keep me from loving my YOTA though!

    im sorry, what was the question? all i've heard so far was "BOO HOO". you realy want to go out and spend $15+ on a new dipstick cause YOU can't read this one? clean it off and try again, if it take 3 times then so be it, its only every 5k miles. think with your dipstick jimmy

    I am thinking with (and about) my dipstick..and engine for that matter!! I don't know about YOU, but i like having the correct amount of oil in my truck (all the time)!!

    So the question was: is there an aftermarket dipstick that will work?

    and yes $15 is a fine price to pay to make sure my truck is running ok. hell, I'd pay $25!!!

    Yes, these. It's a pile of shit. Wiping it off and trying again and again just makes it worse. It seems like it's picking up all the oil from the little tube it slides in.

    I'm thinking of putting 4 small holes in mine. One at low, med-low, med-high, high. Previous truck was like that and it seemed to help a little. Maybe even bending a little loop at the end of the stick to help keep it off the sides of that little tube it goes in.

    just felt like busting a little balls. i dont have a prob with mine. i just fill it till i see it through the oil fill hole. it takes like 15 quarts, but at least i know its full. just kidding just kidding.

    With the S bend in the dipstick tube, I would believe any dipstick you use would have the drag marks when removing. Just remove it, wipe it, dip it and check both sides. One side doesn't have the drag marks and will show the oil line fairly good. The hardest time is when you just changed it and the fresh oil is almost clear. Then you'll need some good lighting to see the level.

    Did the dipstick on the 2010 change? I have never had a problem reading mine, either side. Mine is just a metal strip with a safe range pair of dimples and a half twist at the bottom.

    Those that have trouble, what kind of oil do you use? Some oil does not "stick" as well as others.

    Here's what I do:
    Pull the dipstick, wipe it clean, set it aside for about 5 min, stick it in, pull out, read.

    One side may still have a lil smear but the other is pretty easy to read. Waiting the 5 min or so allows all the oil on the sides of the tube that you dragged up when you first pulled the stick to drain back in so it doesn't end up all over the stick again.
    My wifes subaru is even worse....
