Slow Motion Crash Test (Tacoma, Colorado, Frontier)

Toacoma Double Cab wins best performer

The Tacoma Crew Cab (DC) is the only small pickup to earn a good rating for structure in the small overlap test

I believe that the AC had a good small overlap rating also?

According to the video, the results were similar for the Taco AC.

"Results for the extended cab, which Toyota calls the Access Cab, were similar, with the exception of an acceptable rating for structure due to some additional occupant compartment intrusion"

I was surprised to see the Frontier earn lower marks.

I noticed (for the Taco) at about 4:50 in the video, it seems the side impact airbags were a little slow and almost got hung up on the seat-belt...but I wasn't paying as close attention to the other vehicles to see if it was normal

    Edit, looks normal actually

Anyone notice that the Taco was the only one to have the knee air bag?

Notice the difference between the 2015 F-150 (left image) and the 2016 model (right image)?

The 2015 model looks like someone could get seriously hurt....

Yep, the air bags work as designed, from first hand experience. The knee air bags were pretty comfy too

In all of these videos, the airbags look so soft and fluffy... but then when you actually feel them... they are like a thick canvas tarp. I mean I know they have to withstand a huge amount of force from the speed that they fill up, but going from fluffy cloud in slow motion video to steel wool face scrubber in real life is crazy.

His did it feel when you hit it? I’ve never had one go off for me, I’m a paramedic, only felt them after the fact. We call the abrasions/cuts from airbags, “airbag molestation” due to lack of better phrasing.

In all the Tacoma impacts the front grill ejected at high speed which is a probably a concern for any nearby pedestrians.

You can see it flying off in the preview of the Youtube video in OP's original post.

If you watch it occurs between 5:25 and 5:38. I know the grill is kind of ugly, but that thing could take out a big crowd!

I’ve been a medic for 12 years... I have never seen anyone hit by large debris from a car crash. Glass and plastic fragments yes, but nothing large. Impossible? No.... likely? Big no. I think if you were close enough to a high speed crash and you were only hit by the grill (and not the high speed vehicle), you would be buying a lotto ticket because that day was not your day.

Agreed. I was making the comment somewhat in jest. I guess you were not on here when the 2016's came out and experienced some of the epic grill wars / debate threads.

Ohhhh, those were the days.

Haha I think I missed all of that, but out of context it sounds like people were chucking 3rd Gen grills at each other
