They spend a lot of the money to protect them from pedestrian injuries too. . . Why they put styrofoam and are made of plastic.

I'll have to find that out. I'm heading down to the shop in a few hours to pick up my light bar and winch. I'll see if they would know

Sucks to have a bent frame.. trust me, lol im in the same boat. happened 2 weeks ago, all of my passenger side aftermarket parts, and bumper weren't covered by my insurance so im having to buy a whole new front suspension and going back to a stock front bumper. I am having a "used" frame put on. I was told 4-8 weeks just to have a new frame built and come in, and that was wayyyyy to long for me. luckily these "used" frames come warrantied for anything that could go wrong and are completely inspected prior to install.. sucks not having you truck though man. all your time and money into it and accidents like this can make you depressed. but like you said, at least the truck isn't totaled!

I don’t disagree @ all but in my case the bumper pushed me up and away from the car that hit me (guy crossed the center line and hit me head on / offset at about 25-30 mph) and I got lucky.

But I don’t disagree at other speeds/conditions having the bumper could absolutely screw with the crumple zones.

I'm sorry to hear that, glad everyone is ok. Steel bumper or not, many accidents can quickly run to $17k in damages.

There's a lot of shops and info since Toyota replaced quite a few 1st and early 2nd gen frames for rusting.

If you were to go back. Would you insure all the aftermarket stuff? I always wondered. . . I have had this on my motorcycles but the bikes have always ended up being totaled so they just asked for the purchase date and gave me the depreciated value. (Save your receipts or lie about how old stuff is.

I believe they will fix your truck back to stock look. You will have to cut all over again.

I think the only time that you end up with a Rebuilt Title is if a Vehicle is deemed Totalled and then you decide to fix it, at that point the State inspects the repairs and issues a new Title.

If it is going to be marked rebuilt, I'd have them do nothing, then weigh your options. That's probably a 10k hit to value instantly.

My brothers work buys parts bin GM vehicles. Completely brand new from the factory with parts removed from vehicles that didn't pass the inspection line. They get good deals on them, but they come with rebuilt titles. Selling them is quite a chore. It takes a long time to find someone that'll buy a rebuilt title, even on vehicles that were not in an accident.

They told me they were going to charge me $400 to replace the parts that I removed or if I wanted them to do the work of installing a new SSO bumper that they would also charge me for that. I told him just to put on the new bumper and I'll cut it and install it myself.

Gotcha. Maybe it's just rare to have an accident where the frame is bent and doesn't meet total criteria

Dam that sucks. It is depressing. We put a lot of passion, money, and time into getting our trucks the way we like and in a split second Boom. I'm gonna call my insurance company once I get my truck back and find out how much it will cost me extra to increase my coverage on upgrades.

My old 2000 Tacoma had the Frame bashed in, it was pushed into the floor and surprisingly they fixed it, it spent 40 hours alone on the Frame Machine and over $8000 in frame repairs. That truck was never the same after, always felt like it was not going straight down the road.

i wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole even if it was a good deal.

If it were mine i would trade it off when it was finished being repaired.

Defiantly not a bad idea. I wasn't aware as I was told I was covered, but then upon this accident they said I wasn't. communication went wrong somewhere. Now it sucks cause I wasn't expecting to buy a whole new suspension set up, nor really had to money for it, so now im wishing I had made sure I was covered with my parts from the get go.

You're still within warranty which is good should anything arise after this...fingers crossed that nothing does, but whatever they touch to make this repair happen is what I would research or ask about so you can monitor.

I went down to the body shop and talked with the person that is handling my claim. She wasn't sure what will show up on a carfax report. She did say that the new frame should be getting to them around April 23rd so that's a lot better than 6-12 weeks although she said that's not a definite and could change. I might have to have them put the front bumper back to stock and pay for those parts since I don't think I can get a new SSO bumper that quick, I have to call them and order that Monday.
